Joel Yusim

Joel Ronald Yusim passed away on February 19, 2025. He was a devoted husband, brother, father, and grandfather who touched the lives of many.

Born on March 25, 1961, in Los Angeles, California, Joel was the son of Carol and Sidney Yusim, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife, Anne; brothers Howard and Richard; sons Daniel (Kayla) and Matthew (Kelly); stepsons Robert (Dena) and Ben (Jessica); stepdaughter Amy; and six cherished grandchildren.

A native of Southern California, Joel attended Santa Monica High School and Santa Monica Community College before earning a degree in Criminal Justice from San Jose State University in 1984. He began his career in law enforcement as a dispatcher with the San Jose State University Police Department before joining the California Department of Justice. There, he served as a Special Agent and later as Special Agent in Charge.

After 18 years with the Department of Justice, Joel transitioned to corporate security, working for Oracle before accepting a position managing government operations at Cisco. He remained with Cisco from 2006 until his retirement in 2020. During this time, he pursued graduate studies at San Francisco State University, earning a Master's Degree in Project Management in 2010.

Joel and Anne later relocated to Texas, where he embraced life in the Hill Country. He found joy in ranching, caring for rescued animals, attending concerts at Gruene Hall, and sharing stories with friends at Hays City Store.

Joel will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and deep love for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Food Bank of Northern Nevada (fbnn.org), Oscar's Place (oscarsplace.org), or a charity of one's choice. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
