JOHN BATIS Obituary
January 3, 1932 - August 10, 2016. Passed away peacefully at UPMC surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Andros, Greece and came to America with his wife and three sons in 1966. He settled in Verona and worked as a painter for Avalotis Painting Company. He was an avid gardener, loved to hunt and fish with his family and was a huge sports fan. He was a member of the Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church in Oakmont, PA. John was preceded in death by his wife, Joanna (Loukisas); father of the late Nick (Carol) Batis, Jerry (Tamala) Batis and Tasso (Gloria) Batis; loving grandfather to John N. (Kristy) Batis, John J. (Pavlena) Batis, Taki Batis, Nicole Batis, Christina Batis, Athena Batis and Alex Batis. John adored his great-grandchildren, Maximus Batis and Persefani Batis. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Maria, Katina, Tasia and Eleftherios. Friends will be received on Friday, August 12, 2016, from 4-8 p.m. at ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 378 Maryland Ave., Oakmont, PA where a Trisagion Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016, in The Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, 12 Washington Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139 with an additional visitation being held one hour prior to the funeral service.
