Mr. John Daniel Bolz passed away Sunday, May 28, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Bolz was born Dec. 15, 1944, in Jersey City, N.J. to the late Robert Charles Bolz Sr. and Patricia Shouvlin Bolz. He was a graduate of Notre Dame University and held a master's degree in sociology from Wake Forest University. Mr. Bolz retired after 27 years of service with Forsyth County as a supervisor in child welfare services. He worked tirelessly in the protection and care of children and served on various related boards including the Youth Opportunity Home and the Juvenile Justice Council. Mr. Bolz volunteered for the Civil Air Patrol and most recently for the Winston-Salem Rescue Squad. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Gaylan, of the home; a brother, Robert Bolz Jr. and his wife, Kay of Ft. Worth, Texas; a sister, Mary Pat Weigel of Stewart Manor, N.Y.; a brother, Michael Bolz and wife Kathy of Huntington, N.Y.; a nephew, Eric; and two nieces, Cassandra and Laura. An 11 a.m. memorial service will be held today, May 30, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Michael Hooper officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forsyth Medical Center, Hospice & Palliative Care, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway, 9th Floor, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or the Winston-Salem Rescue Squad, 2955 N. Liberty St. Winston-Salem, NC 27105.

Dan will be truly missed by the Rescue Squad. My husband and I were very fond of him. He was a kind and gracious man, standing quietly in the background and always stepping forward when needed. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy.

The members of the Winston-Salem Rescue Squad have lost a valuable and beloved member. I am proud to have had Dan as a very good friend. His absents from the Squad will be truly missed.

I had not heard of Dan's illness until recently. Your Y group misses you and I will miss him this summer. Agree with me that there are blessings in all things. My thoughts are with you.
