JOHN CHAPMAN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 12 to Jan. 13, 2016.
JOHN GRAHAM CHAPMAN July 24, 1933 - January 8, 2016 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Graham after a valiant battle of 27 years fighting 5 types of cancer. He left us at home and in peace surrounded by his wife of 61 years, Marion and his children Clayton, Catherine and John. He is also survived by his sisters Ann McGuey and Wendy Smith, his brother Ian Chapman, son-in-law Paul Barker and grandchildren Laurelle, John and Joshua. Graham's passions were his family, golf and hockey. He took great pride in his work as a builder. He lived his life to the fullest, devoting his energies to his gardens when he was no longer able to play golf. He missed his golfing buddies at Summit Golf & Country Club and Beverly Golf & Country Club immensely during his final illness, as well as his hockey buddies from previous years. We would like to give special thanks to the staff at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, Graham's oncologist Dr. Pierre Major, assistant Susan and our own general practitioner Dr. David Smosarski for their concern and care. The CCAC, St. Elizabeth Health Care and the VON organization of Hamilton will forever have our gratitude, especially Kyle, Julie and Damian, whose gentleness and expertise helped Graham through his last months. There will be no funeral as Graham has donated his body to McMaster University Medical Centre in hopes that this may help others. An open house will be held to celebrate his life on Sunday, January 17th from 2 - 5 p.m. at 15 Creekwood Place, Dundas. An event will also be held later this spring, date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Juravinski Cancer Centre or the VON organization of Hamilton.

Dear Marion

Sorry to hear about Graham, it takes a strong person to fight that long. Garry loved playing golf with Graham. All the best to you and the family.

Dear Marion ... what a great guy! I have been so fortunate to play golf with Graham over the years, but never once, did he ever complain about what he was going through. He'll be missed. My sincere sympathy to all.
