John M. Chorostecki

Port Huron

John M. Chorostecki, age 85,  formerly of Sarnia, died Saturday, November 22, 2014 in Medilodge of Port Huron.  He was born December 27, 1928 in Oplucko, Poland and lived in Port Huron for the past 17 years with his wife Jean King.

John was a graduate of the University of Toronto with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Imperial Oil having worked in Sarnia, Cartagena, Columbia (1964) and Kingston, Jamaica (1964 to 1969).  He was an avid sportsman, having played football for the University of Toronto and the Sarnia Imperials from 1950 to 1954. As a member of the Sarnia Yacht Club for 45 years, he loved sailing and cruising the North Channel in C Me Now to pick blueberries.  John was an active member of the Bluewater Chordsmen for over 25 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Port Huron for 17 years, where he also sang in the choir.

He is survived by his wife Jean King Chorostecki, 4 sons, James (Marika), Joseph (Jean), Jay (Tina), and Jason, step-daughters, Joanne Westrick and Rebecca (James) Beebe, 2 brothers, Eugene (Helen) Chorostecki and Edward (Carole) Chorostecki, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sicily, and his grandson, Jacob.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church - Port Huron.  A celebration of his life will be held at the Port Huron Yacht Club Saturday December 27 at 1300 hours.  Arrangements were by Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street, Port Huron.  www.smithfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Plese take our deepest condolences from Chorostecki Family in london Ontario and Poland.I am a daughter of Joseph Chorostecki and He came from Lopatyn near Lwow just like John.We went to Port Huron USA many times and never knew...May Lord be with you and Family in those hard times! Jean and Family,

so sorry to hear of John's passing. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you. I will never forget his willingness to help with things like the Easter Seal Regattas and many other events over the years. He will be having the greatest 'sail' of his life now.
