John Dalton Obituary

HAMPTON - On Saturday, April 20, 2002, John Ennis Dalton was called from labor to reward. John was born on Dec. 20, 1946, in Newport News, Va., to the late Robert H. and Lillian Dalton. He was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School Class of 1965. Mr. Dalton served in the United States Army in 1967 and received the Bronze Star for bravery in Vietnam. He retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. after 31 years of service. He was known to his friends as "John Boy," but he most loved the name he was called by his grandchildren, "Pa Pa." He was a member of Sixth Mt. Zion Baptist Temple. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife and his life, Bettie J. Bryant Dalton; his son, Gilbert M. Bryant Jr. (Pamela); his daughter, Tabathia Bryant; his grandsons, RaShaud, Gilbert III and Malik Bryant; mother-in-law, Viola Tyler; sisters and brothers, Lacy H. Turner of Hampton, Charity Dalton Dicks (Leon) of New York, N.Y., Lillian Lynne Rochester Clarke (Joseph) of Newport News, Barbara Dalton Graham of Lynnhaven, Fla., Dollie Dalton Wallace (Hollis) of Silver Spring Md., Robert W. Dalton (Suzanne) of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Alma Mayfield and Reginia Tyler, both of Hampton; two brothers-in-law, James Tyler (Rose) of Augusta, Ga., and Odell Jones (Mary Elizabeth) of Williamsburg; and a host of other family and friends. A special thanks to Dr. Anthony Sibley, Tee and Vicky. Thanks also to the nursing staff of Sentara Hampton General, Sentara Nursing Center and Management and co-workers of Federal Mogul. Viewing will begin at noon Friday at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A wake service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sixth Mt. Zion Baptist Temple with Rev. Jerome Barber officiating. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.

I only knew you and your husband in passing while visiting your neighbor. I am also a member of SMZBT where Rev. Barber informed the congregation of your loss on Sunday, I would like to express my condolences.

Betty,

We are sorry to hear about the lost of John and our deepest sympathy are with you and your family. Of course, Roosevelt (Head) knew you both of you a long time and I remember the first time I met ya'll it was as if I've known you and John all my life and I can see the smile on his face now. Remember all of the precious moments. We will keep you in our prayers and only a phone call away if you need us.

To Betty and the Dalton & Turner family. Truly I can say I share your lose. Johnny was like family to all of us. He was like one of my mother's sons. When I think of Johnny I can langh and smile, because he was that kind of guy. You could always depend on him to make you langh. Truly I will miss him. Betty, know that God never makes a mistake, and my prayers are with you and the rest of the family. Jesus is only a prayer away. He promise never to leave us nor forsake us. Keep your head up!

I was very sadden to hear of the passing of John. I had not idea you were going through...but, I always pray for the sick and their care givers so I was praying for you all the time.
