On February 2, 2022, our Lord and Savior took John home to be with HIM. He struggled with Lewy Body Dementia for the last several years. He is free of pain and suffering but he will be missed by so many. John Amedee DesRoches, “Jack”, 80, was born in Bottineau, ND to Ernest, “Coin”, and Lillian (Lutovsky) DesRoches on 9-26-1941. He grew up and started school in St. John, ND. Then he attended school in Kramer, ND for the next five years, and graduated in 1959 from Sherwood, ND. He spent two years at Minot State College and graduated in 1966 from Valley City State College. On February 20, 1965, he married Diana Guderjahn from Rolla, ND at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bismarck, ND. From 1966-1969, Jack taught in McClusky, ND. The family then moved to Anoka/Andover, MN where he taught elementary Physical Education in the Anoka Hennepin District #11 until his retirement in 2001. Mr. D. loved teaching. He was well known as the Candy Man and for wearing track suits with his “17” pairs of tennis shoes. As a devout Catholic, God and his family were his top priorities, but he also loved Anoka Football and Wrestling; hunting, fishing, chopping wood and working on cars. He could do a brake job in his sleep. He would have given the shirt off his back. And let’s not forget his love for Diana’s cooking, his sweet tooth, good food and his many great friends and coworkers. Jack never missed an opportunity to support a concession stand!! Jack and Diana were blessed with six amazing children, and he is survived by them: Darnell (Dick) Fischer; Stacy (Rob) Laubscher; Lori (Peter) Harris, Marcie (Joe) Harrison, John and (Jenni Heilman) DesRoches, Derek and (Crystal Danley) DesRoches. He is also survived by grandchildren: Cole (Lauren) Harris and first great grandson George coming soon; Janae Harris; Graham and Hailey Laubscher; Carter and Rylee Harrison; Cameron and Hannah DesRoches. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Prebonich, New Brighton, MN; brother, Ronald DesRoches, Minot, ND and nephews and nieces: Joleane (Mohamed) Khalifa, Lorn (Corrinna) DesRoches, Vern (Mar) DesRoches; Mark (Dawn) Prebonich, Kathy (Rich) Martonik; Doug (Vi) Wentz, Geri (Randy) Frohlich as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews and many cousins. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Coin and Lillian; an infant sister; brother-in-law, Bill Prebonich; sister-in-law, Sharon DesRoches; Diana’s parents, Vic and Mina Guderjahn; in-laws, Glenda and Leonard Wentz; Dale Guderjahn. Funeral Services will be held at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 525 Jackson Street in Anoka on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 11:00 AM with visitation at 10:00 AM. Further visitation will be held at Thurston- Lindberg Funeral Home, 2005 Branch Avenue, Anoka from 5-8:00 PM on Thursday, February 10, 2022.

Jack was one of my favorite people ever. I was so blessed to work with him at Andover Elementary. Playing pranks on Jack like rearranging his office and replacing his teacher chair with a first grade-sized chair...so fun. And did we ever enjoy singing for him at his retirement party to the tune of "Please Mr. Postman (DesRoches.)!?! Jack's humor, kindness, joy, and amazing ability to reach kids will be things I will always remember about him. I'll never forget throwing discus against Stacy and Lori in the conference meet at CR my junior year of HS. My parents couldn't be there, and when I broke our school record and took 2nd in conference, Jack was the first person to give me a hug and celebrate with me. He didn't even know me except for throwing against his daughters. He was just that kind of person. I'm am so sorry for your loss, DesRoches Family. He touched so many people; thank you for sharing him with us.

Jack was an amazing guy! Always had a smile and a encouraging comment to share, hell of a handshake, he had a huge heart. He helped my family out during some tough years we went through by blessing us with car maintenance and breaks at a very affordable rate and blessed us at times when we needed it the most. I loved seeing him cruising in his silver step side truck at all the sporting events. He will be deeply missed! His memories will love on! God bless the family! Jack you will be missed ! Mr. DesRoches (Mr. D)'s Family
I will never forget Mr.D, he was the Greatest Gym Teacher. He was so friendly, motivating, smiley, joking and always saying HI or high fives. Hand out Red Hots all the time! That was the Best too!!!
Yes, I remember the track suits, and
different shoes.
There are so many memories I still talk about him, when I run into old Friends. Just like last month.
Sending Love to his Family!❤

I will never forget meeting Jack at Tom Thumb 40 years ago. I worked there and he would come in with the kids. He would open the door and yell loudly. squirrelly!!!! The kids would sit on the counter and he would always have a joke to tell. Our paths crossed several times throughout those years and every time he saw me it was the same thing. He would yell loudly Squirrley. He had a way of always making a person smile. He will truly be missed. I am sorry for your loss Diana and kids. Rest In Peace Jack

Diana, you and your family have such great Faith. That will carry you through until you can be with your beloved Jack again. He will be missed greatly but we know he is in Jesus’ loving arms free from any pain or illness. May Gods peace be with you and your family.

Chuck and I will miss our dinner companion at McGovern for hot turkey sandwich during the State Tournament. Jack was bigger than life and fancied himself a comedian, always ready to tell you a joke or two.
Thank you Diane and family for sharing this great man with us.
