Kirk and Family: So sorry for your loss. Without a doult, Skip was the person that influenced me the most in the way he would mentor his players and the way he metored me. I would look at my Dad, and he would nod his head in Skip's direction. He knew who needed to solve the problem. Kirk without a doult has those qualities and it was such a Blessing to have a few years being led my Skip and watching Kirk follow that path. Ron said it best, the word is passion.
He gave that passion to me as well. The older you get the weeks go slower and the years go faster, and seeing so many familiar names praise Skip, is well, Mentoring. He will never stop Mentoring. We are Blessed.

To Kirk, Brian and family: It is with great sadness that I offer my sympathy to your family during this time of loss of your father/grandfather. I know you don't know me, but I know you in a way that you brighten my life with coaching and playing for the University of Iowa. I don't want to sound like a token fan and offer shallow condolences, but to tell you I really care for you in your time of loss. I felt your grief when the victory over Penn State was secured and both you and Brian wept. That is what makes Iowa different than other states. I think because we are more what others call "corny" and "backward," we reach out to ones in need and who are hurt. It is why Iowans are all family and always will be. I know your dad must of been a great man, because I see evidence of that in his son and his family. You are a class act Mr. Ferentz (Kirk)! I hope you never leave the Hawks, but if the time comes, you need to do what you need to do. But, know that today and always you have earned my respect, and today I share your grief in the loss of your father/grandfather. May God bless you and your family and keep you in His peace as you remember your dad/grandfather forever. Because you see, his memory never dies. It lives on in the type of man you two are. Thank you for sharing your talents to us in Hawkeye nation. And, once a Hawk, always a Hawk! God bless Kirk, Brian and all the family!

Dear Ferentz Family, No one is ever ready for their loved one to pass and there never is a "good time," however, it seems as though the timing was okay and it all worked out. God works in mysterious ways. We are glad that you got to spend some quality time with the family all together. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We are here if you need anything. God Bless. Love, The Crowley's

To Kirk and the Ferentz Family

My thought and prayers are with you and your family during this time of your loss. John Ferentz was a compassionate, loving man who touched so many young lives in our community. He was a great leader, a great mentor, and a great friend. I will always remember how he took me under his wing and not only made me a better ballplayer but also a better person. I will never forget the values of life he taught us as we grew from boys to men. I thank God that He allowed me the opportunity to know your father.Thank-you so much for sharing him with us. He will always live on in my heart. My deepest condolences to you and your family. God bless you

Dear Kirk and family,

My heart goes out to you in the loss of your father! I have lost both parents and a son, Zachary, who died at age 7. He was a TRUE HAWKEYE fan in the years he had cancer. Several Hawkeye players came to see us when he was in University Hospital and Clinic, and that touched my heart! I cried when I saw your tears after the game Saturday. I felt that I knew exactly what you were feeling. My son was 7 when he died from a 4 1'2 year battle with cancer in October, 1987. I hope that all the memories you have help to comfort you. Mine help me! God bless you!

To Coach Ferentz and family,

No words can explain the loss that someone feels when they lose their father or grandfather. I know the feeling having lost my father at an early age and helping my mother cope with cancer presently. I hope that your family can take comfort in knowing that the Hawkeye nation is with you in our thoughts and prayers. We can take comfort in knowing that your father/grandfather is in a better place. He obviously was a great person based on quality people we see in Coach and Brian.

Dear Coach and Ferentz family:

Our deepest sympathy in your recent loss. We have been fortunate to not have gone through this as yet and cannot begin to imagine the grief you are going through at this time.

We met briefly at the Polk county I-club after your 1st season (we attended 9 of the 11 games that year) and we made note what a sincerely down to earth individual you are and that is reflected in your teams... we would guess that your father had something to do with the way you are.

We have been dedicated fans of you and the Hawks and will be looking forward to another win at Penn State. I'll be in the stands routing for the team and praying for you and your family (my wife was unable to make the trip.)

Respectfully,

Candy Stricker

To the Ferentz Family,

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy with the recent passing of your father.

While it may seem inconceivable on game day, we're reminded that some things truly transcend Saturday afternoon glory - the bond of family, the relationship between a father and a son, the loss of the family patriarch and the void left in the lives by the passing of someone so strongly loved.

May God shine on your family in this time of loss and mourning, and may your heart find time to heal through the grieving process.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
