John (Jack) Mitchell Flynn, 87, of Bellerose, New York, born on May 27, 1931 in Mineola, New York, to the late Ellen Lahey Flynn and the late Joseph Mitchell Flynn, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2018 at home with his daughter, Colleen. Jack graduated from Hofstra University and LaSalle Academy in Manhattan, New York. He served as First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps at Quantico, Virginia. Jack was married to the love of his life, the late Eileen McGee Flynn. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Flynn; and sister, Ann Ostertag. Jack is survived by his children, Kerrie Flynn of Newton MA, John Flynn and his wife Lydia of Tolland CT, Colleen Allen Sebastian and husband Ashbow of the Eastern Pequot Indian Reservation, North Stonington CT and Kevin Flynn and his wife Louise of El Sobrante, CA and his sister, Ellen Caracci; and his grandchildren, Sean Allen, Kara Urion, Michael Flynn, Kylah Allen, Caitlin Flynn, Beckett Flynn, Shianne Sebastian, Sherelle Sebastian, Maura Liebendorfer, Andrew Liebendorfer, Ashbow Sebastian, Chenoa Sebastian, Aine Flynn and Cliona Flynn and his great grandchildren, Isla Flynn, Natalie Flynn, and Jackson Allen Marra. He was man of great faith, love of family, a foster parent of many newborn babies, volunteered at the soup kitchen in Hartford, delivered meals on wheels, a member of the Knights of Columbus, actively involved in St. Vincent DePaul, was an avid Yankee fan, a talented stained glass maker, enjoyed skiing, swimming, volleyball and sailing. He was a founder of St. Margaret Mary Church and the South Windsor Swim Club. His kind and gentle demeanor will be forever missed, along with his infectious smile that would warm every heart. Donations in Jack's name can be made to St. Vincent DePaul c/o St. Margaret Mary Church 80 Hayes Road South Windsor, CT 06074 and are appreciated. Friends and family members may attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor. Burial will be private, at his request. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Margaret Mary Church or St. Vincent DePaul, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor, CT 06074. A special thanks to the Center for Hospice Care and the many nurses, therapists, aids, volunteers and especially to the nurse Courtney, who was there to provide emotional and spiritual support at the time of his death.
