HAVERHILL — Haverhill native, John T. Kilcourse, 39, died on Friday, June 6, 2008 at Merrimack Valley Hospital after a long illness.
John was born on March 8, 1969 in Haverhill to Hon T and Joyce E. (Crowe) Kilcourse.
He was a member of Sacred Hearts Parish and attended Sacred Heats School graduating with the Class of 1983. He also attended Haverhill High School, class of 1987 and graduated from Merrimac College, 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing.
John excelled academically and especially in athletics. In his early years he played basketball at Sacred Heats and hockey with the North Andover Hockey Association. He played t-ball and baseball with St. Joseph's Baseball League. In his high school days he also played basketball. His greatest athletic achievement was playing quarterback for the Haverhill Hillies football team. He was so versatile that he could play almost any position in any sport. He also played coed softball for Knight Tool Company.
He spent college summer breaks working for Donohue Brothers and after college worked for Knight Tool Company/Camelot Systems, and Baron's Appliances.
Most important to John was his family. He enjoyed spending his vacations on Cape Cod in Truro and visiting family in Florida, always hoping to sneak a trip to Walt Disney World, a favorite place of his. Computer games were another favorite of his, especially around the holidays when he and his cousin Mark would spend hours challenging each other. He had an excellent eye in drawing and could copy, by sketching, any picture down to the finest detail.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Francis and Mary (Doherty) Crowe and John T. and Florence (Broderick) Kilcourse, and special Aunt Sylvia (Broderick) Smith.
Surviving John are his sister, Nancy Northcutt and her husband Rob; nephew Nathan T. Northcutt, all of Anchorage, Alaska; his fiance Stephanie Demarais of Haverhill; aunts and uncles Frances and Gary Chadwick of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla, and Martin P. and Carolyn Kilcourse of North Andover; cousins Lisa Smith and her husband David, Mark Chadwick and his wife Jennifer, Alicia Hornish and her husband Mike, and Patrick Kilcourse, and his dog Buddy; and many other family and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the charity of one's choice. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the memorial service Saturday morning, July 19, at 11:15 a.m. at H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral and Cremation Service, 210 South Main St. A visitation period will precede the service from 9 to 11 at the Bradford Funeral Home. I loved John. He was my cousin but I always thought of him as my big brother. He was my best friend and the best man at my wedding. I had hoped to grow old with him. When I was growing up I looked up to him... I wanted to be just like him. He was smart, athletic, caring and would do anything for you. He was my hero. He also had a great laugh. If I could make him laugh at a joke or story I would light up inside. I will miss him.

We are very sorry to hear about John's passing. Although we did not know him personally, we are good friends with his Uncle Pat and Aunt Caroline Kilcourse. We will certainly remember him in our prayers.

John was a co-worker, a teammate, and most importantly a friend. I will miss his quick wit and humor that we all shared after softball games at his home. John would do anything for a friend, and he will be sorely missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. May you finally rest in peace my good friend...

We met John in San Francisco at the wedding of his cousin, Mark Chadwick and his bride Jenn. We know how much John enjoyed sharing summer vacations with his family in Cape Cod. We send our condolences to John's sister, Nancy, and the remainder of his family as well as his fiancee, Stephanie. John is at peace now.
