John Matushewski

John Matushewski December 6, 1934 November 26, 2011 John Matushewski was born on December 6, 1934 in Alvena SK. He moved with his wife Audrey Matushewski to Saskatoon in 1963. In 1979 he took a chance in life. With three kids to support he sold his house and bought Nestor's Bakery. That was the beginning of a new journey for John. For forty years he worked at night baking while his wife worked the day shift. On November 26 his journey here on earth ended and a new one began. John passed away quickly and peacefully at the St. Paul's Hospital after being diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in October. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Matushewski; his sons Bev (Beverly), Brad (Elisha), Bonita (Brett); three grandchildren, Brett, Rachelle and Conner; and his two sisters, Olga Boychuk and Jean Pozniak. Passing before him was his mother Mary, father Anton, his sisters Fillis, Phyllis, Albina and his brothers Michael, Joseph and Stan. John was an outstanding baker, a talented carpenter and loved his music. He was a gracious host for friends and family always taking care of every small detail and always making sure everyone had enough to eat. He loved his garage and his back yard. Summers were spent planting flowers and gardening and winters were spent in the garage building. Vigil of John will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, 217 Lenore Drive, Saskatoon, SK. Rite of Committal will take place in the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery in Alvena, SK.
