John Moran Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 10 to Feb. 11, 2023.
John J. Moran Jr.

Born April 24, 1944, passed in peace Jan 31, 2023, at the age of 78.

John was preceded by his father, John Moran Sr. and Mother Hazel Moran (nee Baker). He is survived by his brother, Edward Moran (Marianne), and their five children, John's nieces and nephews, John's children, Shawn (Gregory) Moran, Dana (James) O'Donnell (nee Moran), Patrick (Amanda) Moran, Eddie Moran and his grandchildren Jesse, Cullen and Holden who he said gave him his zest later in life.

John was born to John Sr. and Hazel in St. Louis Missouri and moved to the Northside of Chicago where he met Roxanne Parsons while playing softball at Ogden school at the age of 17. He met her and told her that day he would eventually marry her. Roxanne and John did marry and had two daughters together, Shawn and Dana. They were married 17 years and remained close friends until his passing.

John worked for Peoples Gas for over 40 years where he built many meaningful friendships that would remain throughout his entire life. He loved working for Peoples Gas and was respected and admired by all of his coworkers. He was able to retire at 60 years old.

Later in life, John met Alexandria Rafa, who he would marry and have two more beautiful children who he loved and adored, Patrick and Eddie Moran. John and Alex also remained close friends.

Other than his family, John had an immense love of basketball, softball and lifting weights. He loved to track his weightlifting work and his goal of hitting 10,000,000 repetitions in his lifetime was short by just 733,000. He worked out every day until his passing.

A Celebration of Life will take place this spring.

Dear Roxanne,

I would like to express my condolences to you, Shawn and Dana for the loss of John. I have been trying to write you a note for a week but my emotions are all over the place.

John was a true gentleman, always respectful to everyone he met, a caring individual and my lifelong friend. I am lost without him. He was extremely loyal and trustworthy. God does not make people like John any more.

He was a super crazy athlete and with his motivation and determination he could master any sport he desired. I had no idea that 61 years ago John would choose me as a friend and how blessed I would become.

I miss him and hope to shoot baskets with him once again.

Ron
