To the Outlaw Family,

I am a 35 years old that played my high school football for Coah Outlaw in Sherman, Texas. I am saddened to have just heard of his passing today. He taught me so many things as my coach- how to work hard, how to handle business, and how to do the right thing. I was apart of his most successful Sherman team in 95' and look back at my playing time with wonderful feelings. I hope that my son's will have the chance to play and be around a coach half the man he was. I will keep your family in my prayers and I know that he is looking down on all the men that he touched throughout his coaching career. He was truly an influence on me and will miss him.

Love,

Jason K. Smith - #72- Sherman Bearcats- 1992-1994

My prayers are with the Outlaw family. John was the first player I met on my recruiting trip to UCA. A great teammate and the toughest 170 lb defensive back (he knocked my spleen out in practice) I ever lined up against. I've had the opportunity to watch his teams in the Texas playoffs and saw how hard his kids played and understand why they loved him so much. Speaking for all "Law's" UCA teammates, God Bless John and the Outlaw family.

What Coach Outlaw did in the small town of Lufkin, TX outsiders can't understand and insiders can't explain. He brought Lufkin to life through football. Coach Outlaw touched so many kids lives, and made them believe they could be better people and achieve whatever they put their minds to. He was not only a coach but a mentor, role model, father figure, and a friend. He knew everyone of his players and his goal was to build a lasting relationship with each and everyone of them. Lufkin not only lost a great coach, but more importantly a great man. I will forever keep his legacy with me in my coaching career and life.

Mrs. Outlaw, I was the Human Resources Director for the Head Start Program for nine counties, one being Angelina. When we opened a new center in Lufkin and named it "The Little Panthers Day Care and Learning Center". I called Coach Outlaw and asked him to donate us some pictures of the Panthers for our center. He was so kind and thrilled that we named our center after his boys. May God comfort you during this time, and our prayers are with you and your family.

I was part of Coach Outlaws coaching staff for 3 years in Sherman and then recruited his players in Lufkin during my college coaching days. Every kid that he gave to me was a successful player and student and represented Lufkin in a great way. One of them is on my coaching staff! So much of what I do as a head coach, I learned from Coach Outlaw. He also had a great impact on me because of his genuine love and concern for my family. So much good in this man and he would willingly give it away to anyone who would receive it. I will always remember him and appreciate what he taught me about football and people. My thoughts and prayers are with his precious wife and son during these difficult days. Jer. 29:11

Coach Outlaw was as fine a person as you could hope to have molding your child. He made us all feel special and he began his work long before we were of any value to him on the field. I count it a blessing that God crossed our paths. He will truly be missed.

"Class of '98 Big Harris #68 (No Limit Soliders - I thought we told you). We will miss you so much Coach Outlaw. Outlaw arrived in the community of Lufkin in '95 bringing a energy of "HARD WORK DOES PAY OFF IN LIFE AND YOU WILL BE REWARDED".... Coach Outlaw was as a Father Figure / Life Coach who wanted all his kids to succeed in life on/off the field thru hard work and dedication. I'm still in shock!! I will miss you so so much, our prayers are with your family and friends during this time.
