John Tillis

PEARL CITY, Ill. —-John “Jack” Tillis, age 75, passed away Thursday April 3, 2008, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL.He was born on October 14, 1932, in Sabula, IA, to John and Hattie (Doyle) Tillis. He married LaVonne Hoffman on September 5, 1951, in Sugar Creek, IA. He graduated from Charlotte High School in 1950.He owned and operated Tillis and Sons Milk Hauling. He farmed for most of his life and also sold feed. The last 14 years he worked for Tri-State Tours, retiring in 2005. He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Pearl City Lions Club for 30 years.He is survived by his wife; LaVonne of Pearl City, and eight children: Dean (Debra) Tillis of Stockton, IL; Alice (Jeff) Kempel of Freeport, IL; David (Carla) Tillis of Pearl City, IL; Dennis (Deb) Tillis of Freeport, IL; Ann (Mark) Frey of Pearl City, IL; Arlene (Eric) Winter of Weston, WI; Dale (Dee) Tillis of Belvidere, IL; Angela Canner of Freeport, IL, and Sharon Tillis of Spirit Lake, IA; 18 grandchildren: Shawn (Dori) Clark, Tara (Marshall) Bell, Tabbatha Lancaster, Troy Tillis, Joshua (Mara) Kempel, Jennifer Kempel, Adam Tillis, Daphne Frey, Craig Winter, Jared Winter, Danika Tillis, Deidra Tillis, Ashley Canner, Heather Boyett, Daniel Joe Tillis, Lindsey Aurand, Zack Aurand and Erica Coleman; seven great-grandchildren; 1 Brother; Edward (Corrine) Tillis of N.E., IA and 1 sister-in-law Bernadine Tillis of Dewitt, IA.Jack was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, one brother, Francis; one sister, Mary Hinson; two sons, Daniel and infant son Donald, one grandson, Andrew Lancaster; and one great-grandson, Jaxson Bell. Funeral services will be held Monday April 7, 2008, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lena. Visitiation will be from 3:00 PM till 7:00 PM on Sunday April 6, 2008, at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, with a rosary service at 3:00 PM. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Lena.
