John (Jay) Patrick Tuohy passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the age of 77. He was born on August 11, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio. He served in the Army during the Korean War as a medic and graduated from the University of Dayton in 1957 with a business degree. John worked with his father in Dayton building up a restaurant business, The Tenderloin, until 1963. In 1960 he married Patricia Tuohy (nee) Krull and raised three children. He was a top salesman and manager in Dayton, Boston and Oklahoma City, selling computer systems and services to auto dealers. He won many awards along the way through his merit fueled by his love of the craft of selling. After retirement he maintained his youth with a small startup auto repair shop (Best Job Bodyworks) until 2004. John and his devoted wife, Patty, were married for 49 years. He lived the last 30 years in OKC, always serving as a stable anchor for his children, family and friends. He best celebrated his last few years with his passion for building and flying his airplane. Today I was advising a younger friend who felt slighted by others in his workplace about how to keep his head up when being criticized. I remembered what John told me back in 1986 after I'd been looked down on by an arrogant car dealer's son, and I relayed this today though I've used this hundreds of times in my past. John said "All you have to do is what I do. Simply look at the guy and think to yourself "You can't do what I do. You can't know what I know. You don't have the skills that I have. In fact, you couldn't carry my bags!"" John was a friend, a mentor, and a very, very wise man. His teachings have helped me countless times in my own career and my own businesses since then. I think of him often and I can't help but smile for the times he coached me and taught me how to be a better man and a better sales pro.

Dear Patty and family,
John's passing is truly sad for me, for I have referred to him as my "Second Father" for many years. He's forgotten more about life than I shall ever know, and I am grateful for his advice, his faith, and his humor that he has shared with me for 23 years... I'm so very sorry that I was not able to travel to OKC for a visit. You all are in my thoughts.

Dear Patty and Family - You and Jay were married for 49 years and I so remember attending your wedding with the reception held at the Tenderloin. It was so beautiful! I just remember Jay as being so nice and handsome. We are very sorry for your loss and we send you our love and prayers.
