John VanAssche Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2025.
John Anthony VanAssche, age 60, passed away peacefully at his home in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan on July 14th. John was born on August 4th, 1964, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. John was always known for his gregarious nature; a socially outgoing friend to all. John is the loving husband of 19 years to Anissa. Dear father of Jonathon, Kayla, Amber, and Lauren VanAssche, as well as Cianna (Josh) Chess. Brother of Randy (Karen) VanAssche, Cheryl (Tad) Bates, Rita Harvey, and David VanAssche. Proud grandfather of Caiden, Jacob, Liam, Addison, Alexander, Mackenzie and Alex Jr. Beloved son of Ann Mihlader, son in law of Joyce Duncan, and brother-in-law of Kristin (Anthony) Peake. John was preceded in death by his father, Leo VanAssche; stepfather, Rick Mihlader; and father-in-law Roy Duncan.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26th, from 11am to 12pm at Clinton Valley Assembly of God, 33857 S. Gratiot Ave. (n. of 15 Mile Rd.) in Clinton Township. A remembrance gathering will follow until 2pm, where friends and family are invited to share memories and offer their condolences. A light lunch will be provided; for those wishing to contribute to the luncheon, desserts and/or appetizers would be appreciated.

To honor John's connection to his Belgian heritage, where pigeons are long associated with home, hope, and remembrance, a ceremonial pigeon release will be held immediately at the close of the memorial service. The pigeon release is courtesy of the East-Side Pigeon Club, of which the VanAssche family were founding members. All who knew and loved John are welcome to attend.

If you are interested in purchasing flowers, deliveries should be directed to Clinton Valley Assembly of God on Friday, July 25 until 12pm only. (Viviano's Flower Shop in Saint Clair Shores has been made aware of the delivery constraints).
