John Walden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 28, 2016.
John M. Walden, 88, of Bedford, took his violin and went to heaven on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016. Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Burial will follow his service in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 11 a.m. Thursday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. John loved music. He could play any instrument but loved the violin and the fiddle. He played with several bands, at First Baptist Church in Euless, and the Fort Worth Symphony. More notably, he played with the Light Crust Doughboys. During his time with the Doughboys, he was nominated for several Grammies and even won one. In addition to his music career, John served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a Mason and was self-employed as a welder. He was loved by his family, and his music will be missed. John was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and 11 brothers. Survivors: Wife of 44 years, Kay Walden; sons, John and wife, Sherri, and Stephen Walden; stepsons, Sammy Connor, Rick and Donnie Beasley; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Michael and Duane Walden.

The few times that I got to visit with my Uncle John over the years, he was always inspiring to my personal musical goals. But more importantly, he discussed living a good life and letting music be a blessing.

I think of him often with love and respect.

My deepest sympathy to the family of John Walden. We played many gigs together, and he was a fine musician.

Prayers for you Kay and rest of John's family. May God grant you peace and comfort during this time of great loss. John is now playing his great music for God and all that have gone before him in heaven. He is whole again and pain-free and looking down on his loved one he left behind. Play loud, John, so we can hear your beautiful music.

John is absolutely one of the greatest-ever members of The Light Crust Doughboys. John came to our band at just the right time, and he helped usher in a performing and touring renaissance of The Light Crust Doughboys. Smokey Montgomery himself said: "This particular band (with John) is the greatest performing stage Light Crust Doughboys band in history." James Blackwood himself said "John Walden is the greatest stage fiddler I've ever witnessed---anywhere..." John, you made so many fans of The Light Crust Doughboys so happy. John, we'll meet you in the Morning...! -signed--ART GREENHAW, for The Light Crust Doughboys

So sorry for your loss. John was a sweet uncle and sweet person. He loved playing music and he loved the Lord here on this earth. I wonder what instrument he is playing in Heaven's Choir. I know it's beautiful.
