John White Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 15 to Oct. 16, 2022.
John Hansford "Hans" White III passed away October 11, 2022 after a sudden and brief illness. He was 51. The son of John Hansford White, Jr. and Janet Youens Wolters, Hans was born July 24, 1971, in San Antonio, Texas. Hans grew up in Uvalde and moved back to San Antonio in the early 80's. Hans' grandmother, Dela "Duckie" White was a central figure in raising him in his early years. In his teens, Laurie Mitchell White came into his life and loved and reared him well. Hans graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1990 and attended Texas Tech University.

At 20, Hans met Amy Patton and the two have been together ever since. They married May 31, 1997 and renewed their vows every five years: once by Elvis in a Las Vegas chapel, again on top of Vail mountain, and most recently in the ICU on the day he passed.

Hans was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served on Sunshine Cottage Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Texas Cavaliers, the Order of the Alamo, San Antonio German Club, and the San Antonio Country Club. He was a constant supporter of the San Antonio Food Bank and the San Antonio Zoo, specifically their Texas Horned Lizard Reintroduction Project.

Hans was a steadfast friend. He was loyal and dedicated to those that he held dear. Hans was known for being "the best and worst gift giver." From homemade chili patine salts to word puzzles from the newspaper to frogs, you never knew what might end up on your doorstep. He loved hunting, fishing, and cooking; a son of Texas to his core.

Most importantly, Hans was all about family. A dedicated father to John IV and Remy, Hans was always present and involved in their lives whether it was Boy Scout camp outs or distant track meets. Hans didn't miss a moment. He loved time at the ranch with his brothers, family dinners, and their time in Vail.

Hans is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Amy, and their two children, John IV and Remy. He is also survived by parents, John and Laurie White and Janet Youens Wolters; mother-in-law, Cleda Patton; siblings, Molly and Clint Truax, Clayton White, Matthew and Grace White, David White, and Jake and Haley Wolters; nephews Thomas Truax, Cal White, Britton and Grayson Wolters; and nieces, Sophia and Abigail Wolters; and grandmother, Lynn Mitchell. Hans is loved and will be missed by his very large extended family. Hans is preceded in death by grandparents John and Dela White ("Big Fella" and "Duckie"); Willam and Myrl Youens ("Tot" and "Bootsie"); Ralph Mitchell; father-in-law, CB Barbour; and sister, Annabeth Wolters.
