My cousin Jonny was four years my senior, and definitely the coolest person I knew! When our families visited each other, many Sundays, he was willing to let me tag along-to shoot pool, comment on Uncle Bob's baseball watching, and be a sounding board for his disgruntled commentary. Once we were both adults, we visited very rarely, but kept up a regular email correspondence. He addressed me as Little Cuz, and signed his emails Big Cuz.We talked about kids, grandkids, family history, and health issues. We avoided politics, but he was always respectful (even when being sarcastic), and several times asked me for advice about choosing something non-sexist for a gift for Emilia. I wish he had had an easier time of it, and wish the same for those who loved him. I can't send him my annual birthday email today, but will always hold him in my heart.

My uncle Jonny was my hero as i grew up from childhood. He was filled full of stories that he would share with such enthusiastic joy that all you wanted to do was to sit and listen to him. Time was always too short. Some of my fondest memories i was privileged to share with him was his total devotion to his mother, Rose. No matter what day of the week it was, holiday or not, he would bring her her favorite cannolies and chocolate covered marshmallows which she loved to put in the freezer and nibble them lest they would run out before Jonny's next delivery! The joy this brought to everyone around her was the same joy he brought to everyone he touched.Even in early childhood, he would sneak me into grown-up's movies, drive me way too fast in his little red MGB, and he would tickle me until i screamed. And, like with his two sons, he bought me a Karate outfit and tried to share his martial arts passion with me. He always made me feel special . I miss him terribly, but he will now and forever remain in my heart.
