Obituary for Jose Rocha, 84 years Old

Jose Rocha passed away on April 27, 2025, at 3:35pm comfortably at home with his family. Jose battled with cancer for 10 months, which caused much sadness to all of us; He is resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior.

He was born on September 9, 1940, in Rua Valverde Agualva Terceira Azores to his parents Jose Coelno DaRocha and Francisca (Andrade) DaRocha.

Jose was a proud young man and proud of his country that brought him to join the Portuguese Military. At the end of his military period, he married his teenage sweetheart Maria (Azevedo) Rocha. Jose and Maria had a son (Joseph Rocha), two years later they made the decision to leave Portugal in 1968 to start their life in the United States, Raynham Massachusetts. The hard-working man he was, he went directly to work to support his family. He worked initially for Grossman's lumber for 25 years, then Belnap White Group, and Dunkin Dounts until retirement. Upon retirement he and Maria made the decision to make another big move, taking them to North Port, Florida.

Jose was a devout Catholic, in Massachusetts he was a member of Holy Family congregation. In Florida he was a member of St. Maximillion Parish where he will have his memorial service.

Many friends and family will recall the good times with Jose as he enjoyed cooking and entertaining - An Open House to All! Especially, we can all recall the magnificent specular Christmas Eve dinners of food, conversation and laughter.

His hobbies consisted of carpentry, making wine, helping whoever needed a hand, and of course cooking!

He is survived by his wife Maria, his son Joseph, daughter n law Sharon (McCracken), granddaughter Casey Lee, and Susan Tenterromano.

Jose was blessed to have an extended family consisting of his siblings Anna Soares, her late husband Joseph, Joseffa Inacio and her late husband Manuel, Rosa Nogueira and her husband David, his late brother Domingos and his spouse Christina, Lucia Gomes and her spouse George and his brother Francisco and his spouse Lucia.

Jose's blessings went further upon his marriage to Maria with her large loving family, consisting of Rosa and Joao Borges, Fernanda and Ivo Meneses the late Celestina Coelho and her late husband Joao, Luzia Gravito and her late husband Adelino, Manuel and Fernanda Azevedo, Jose and Lucia Azevedo, Filomina and her husband Jose Chaves, Fernando and Lisa Azevedo, Luisa and her husband Ceasar Medeiros.

He is also survived by nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Tidwell Hospice in Memory of Jose Rocha.

A mass and a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Florida.
