Age 87, of Oakmont (formerly of the West End), passed away peacefully on August 23, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Anna Mae. Father of Judith Anania Stabile of Oakmont, Joseph (Teresa) Anania, Jr. of Fox Chapel, James Anania of Gibsonia, and the late Stephen J. Anania; loving and devoted grandfather of Lauren, Kristen, Sarah, Grace, Joseph III, Jeremey, and Joshua; he is also survived by his brother John (Teena) Anania of Valencia, PA. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh which was funded in part by the GI Bill based on his service in the US Army, Joe joined and spent his entire accounting career with Price Waterhouse rising to Partner in the audit practice serving multinational companies. While planning to retire at the mandatory age of 60 in 1991, a position opened at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the chief rule-making body for accountants. After an extensive selection process, Joe was accepted as the seventh member of the FASB and served on the Board in Norwalk, Connecticut until his second and final term expired in 1999. Joe was dedicated to his accounting profession as well as his family. While he enjoyed the beaches of Hilton Head and later Kiawah Island, reading and golfing, his primary hobby was his family and friends, and he made long-lasting friends wherever he went. He was always very active and devoted to the Catholic Church first at St. Athanasius in West View and later St. Joseph's in O'Hara Township. Friends and relatives will be received at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont on Monday, August 27, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, 10 a.m. St. Joseph Catholic Church (O'Hara Twp.) 330 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15215. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Joe always remembered my name, even though I worked with his team just a few times. He was humble, even though he was a leader in the national accounting profession.

I remember Joe as an excellent and knowledgeable partner on the Westinghouse audit engagement. I remember that he told me of his exercise regimen, specifically that I should try to tread water for 20 minutes ("it is difficult!"). Joe remembered everyone's name on his team. I also remember his dedication to the University of Pittsburgh. I took some MBA classes in a room named for him, if I am not mistaken. Rest in peace, good and faithful servant.

Joe was a fine man, outstanding graduate of Pitt Business School, member of the Alumni Committee and Former President of the committee. He made many friends through the years and was well liked by all who knew him. Condolences to his family, particularly his brother John, whom I knew at PPG.
