Joseph Boyer Candler, Jr.

Vero Beach - Joseph Boyer Candler, Jr., March 4, 1938 - December 16, 2024, 86, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, surrounded by family. Joe was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He graduated from the Taft School in 1957 and then earned a degree in Business from Babson College in 1960. In 1961, he moved to Vero Beach to work at Piper Aircraft before opening a car dealership specializing in British automobiles in Eau Gallie (now Melbourne), Florida.

When not in Vero Beach, he enjoyed spending summers in Wolf Laurel in the mountains of North Carolina. He served on the Saint Edward's School Board of Trustees and was a member of the Wolf Laurel Country Club, Riomar Bay Yacht Club, John's Island Club and Quail Valley Club. He loved sharing his many interesting and humorous stories with staff and members (sometimes more than once). Joe was an avid automobile and aviation enthusiast. He was the proud owner of a Ford GT40 MK III, one of only three left-hand drive cars built. He was a lover of dogs taking any opportunity to give a good chest scratch or belly rub.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barby; children Richard B. Candler (Meghan), Joanne C. Linehan (Tim) and Lindsay G. Candler (Ray Comparetta); sisters Greer Candler (Thom Coder) and Libby Candler (Dan Hughes); and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was predeceased by his father and mother, Joseph Boyer Candler and Betty Claire Candler; sister, Patricia Boyer Candler Cushman; and brothers, Henry E. Candler, II and David G. Newbro.

A family celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joe's memory to Saint Edward's School or VNA Hospice of Indian River County.
