Joseph Salvatore Didato, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening at his home in Middletown (CT) surrounded by members of his family. Born, Jan. 15, 1929, he was predeceased by his faithful wife of 58 years, Ann Marie Didato, He is survived by a daughter, Jo-Ann (Didato) Wollman, her husband Steve, of Berlin, Son, Tom and wife, Susan Didato of Camden, S.C.; two grandchildren, Jillian and Kyle Wollman. He is also survived by his sister, Lucy Talamona, of Middletown, sister-in-law, Dorothy Didato of Middletown, and sister and brother-in-law, Cyril "Bud" and Jean Jackson of Cromwell along with 20 nephews and nieces and many grand and great-grand nephews and nieces, cousis and and friends. He was predeceased by three brothers, Sebastian "Mickey, Carmelo and Paul Didato, a sister, Mary (Didato) Agnew, sister in laws Gertrude, and Connie. Brother-in-laws Raymond Talamona, George Agnew and Robert Doolan. Son of the late Salvatore and Sebastiana (Passinisi) Didato, he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and was U.S. Army veteran who served in Europe. He worked for more than 30 years for Hartford Electric Light Company which later became Northeast Utilities. Following his retirement, both he and Ann Marie were extremely involved in the lives and development of their two grandchildren during their formative years. He was an deeply devout and active lifetime member of St. Sebastian's Church in Middletown. He served as president of the St. Sebastian's School PTO, was president of the church's Holy Name Society and served on the St. Sebastian's Feast Committee along with several other church and community organizations. A former member and board member of the Italian-American Civic Order in Middletown, he would later be accorded the honor of being named a lifetime member of the organization. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at D'Angelo Funeral Home, 22 South Main St., in Middletown from 9 a.m until 10:45 a.m.; followed by a mass of Christian Burial at St. Sebastian's Church at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7 with an internment service to follow at St. Sebastian's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made in his name to Xavier High School in Middletown.
