Joseph Ferguson Obituary

Visit the Legacy Remembers website to view the full obituary.
Joe "Jody"Ferguson loved life and the many things that it had to offer, especially his family and friends. He could often be found at his beloved home in Plymouth, where he was dubbed the unofficial 'Mayor of White Horse Beach'. He was never afraid of hard work for it was instilled in him at a young age from good parents. He was born September 4, 1958 in Boston a son of Marilyn "Sis"(Ryan) Ferguson and the late William L. "Fergie" Ferguson. Raised in the Nonantum neighborhood of Newton he graduated from Newton North High school in 1976. Joe took up the trade of plumbing and mastered it well. He worked at Raytheon Corporation for 42 years. When he wasn't working at Raytheon, he was always working or helping family, friends, or anyone that needed a helping hand and never expected anything in return. He married Auburndale native Linda Whiting and was quickly adopted into her large and loving Italian family. They married August 27, 1979 in Corpus Christi Church and have made Framingham their home for over forty years. Joe was diagnosed 5 years ago with a rare liver disorder called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. Joe fought a very difficult battle while remaining hopeful of receiving a lifesaving liver transplant. He died peacefully on Monday, August 30, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was 62. Joe loved life and will be remembered as hard-working, selfless and a jack of all trades. He had a unique ability to engage people and make them feel welcome, accepted and important. He was honest and had a witty and dry sense of humor. He would often share useless trivia which he bestowed upon family and friends. Joe will always be remembered for his infamous super bowl parties and his love of vacationing with his wife, family, and friends. He enjoyed a cold bud light, The Three Stooges, and the company of his grandchildren. In addition to Linda, his wife of 43 years, he is survived by their children, Danielle A. Ferguson (Brian Johnson) of Stow, Joseph K. Ferguson (Laura) of Pepperell and Jenna M. Ferguson of Easton; grandchildren, Alex, Evan, Chloe and McKinley; his mother, Marilyn 'Sis' Ferguson of Newton; his brother, Mark Ferguson of Newton; many in-laws, nieces & nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his 'best buddies', Chuck Dabritz, Stan Lichwala, and Scott 'Studzo' Studley. Out of an abundance of love and caution for family and friends funeral services will be private. Those wishing to view Joe's Funeral Mass may do so via this link on Tuesday, September 7th at 10:30 a.m. https://my.gather.app/remember/joseph-ferguson-2021 In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Joe's name to PSC Partners Seeking a Cure, 6900 E. I had the good fortune to cross paths with Joe Ferguson at the Wayland Raytheon Plant back in the late 1980's.
Simply put - The world could certainly use more Joe Fergusons in it..
Joe was a Stand-Up guy, always willing to lend a helping hand, a good chat or advice on how to tackle a home plumbing problem.
He had a way about him that was completely friendly and warmly welcoming. Liking Joe was easy.
Linda please allow me to extend my condolences to you and your family on Joe's Passing.
His presence here made the world a better place.
With the highest of regard,
Johnny Femino

To Linda and family, words will never express how deeply saddened we are at the loss of Joe. He was my partner in crime. We have been through so many battles together and I would trade the loss of all of them to have won this one. We looked forward to so many get-togethers down the Cape and I speak for so many when I say my heart is broken. He was one of the best men I have ever known, but I know you already know that. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers Mike and Janine Zagami

Joe and I go back as far as the 1966 Summer Carr School playground era, near his home with good old Mrs. Walcott. Then as fate would have it we wound up at Raytheon some 13 to 15 years later. It was wonderful growing old with that same boy that once sat across from me playing a game of Chinese Checkers or Parcheesi during those carefree warm Summer days decades ago, when all seem right with the world at least for 2 young lads. My heartfelt condolences to Linda and all the Fergusons and dear friends of Joseph. We all indeed will miss him.

I am so sorry to hear that Joe has passed away. I met Joe about 30 years ago when our boys played hockey. Joe was the type of guy that would give you the shirt off his back. He would always solve my plumbing problems and my boys plumbing problems. At the end of the job I would ask him what I owed him and he would always charge a low price for the job. Sometimes I would have to force him to accept my money.
The world has lost one of the truly great guys, they broke the mold when Joe was born........... He will be sorely missed by everyone that knew him ! ! !

Sending love to my dear friend Linda and their beautiful family. My heart is broken for each of you. Joe was the type of guy that would drop whatever project he had going to help others. Your problem became his problem and he was determined to fix it in any way possible. He will be missed by so many both in Framingham and Plymouth. Tessie still stops at the dog whisperers stoop waiting for him to give him her some affection that could even come in the form of rib eye steak. We are all sadden by his loss.
May all your wonderful memories help you all through this difficult time. With deepest sympathy, until we meet again. God speed my friend.
Love,
Susan Vincuilla
