I just found out about Joe’s passing. Joe and I were friends for over 50 years going back to high school days. Ironically, I lost my brother on March 24 as well otherwise Joy & I were planning a road trip in March from our home in Palm Springs to spend a couple days in Scottsdale however many things changed.
Prayers going out to Araceli and all family members. We wish you peace and happiness. I will miss my friend Joe very much.

We did not know of Joe´s passing until we went to his deli and saw the poster of him with the date of his passing. Our family will miss talking to him at our lunches. We shared stories about Chicago and Italian recipes. Joe always had a smile for his customers old and new. He really kept Italian culture alive and fun to be part of with family and new friends.

We are so saddened to hear of Joe´s passing. I´ve known Joe for many years. We went to the same gym, years ago, and he was always friendly. I took my daughters to eat at Guido´s very often. My younger daughter asked Joe if she could interview him for a project at Chaparral High School, and he obliged. He was one of the good guys. Rest in peace Joe Guido.
Our deepest condolences to his family.

I will always remember Joe´s boisterous laugh, his jokes, and most importantly-"Smooth Operator" playing whenever his phone rang. He was a perfect combination of no bs tough as nails coupled with understanding and a kind heart. I was honored to work alongside him for a year and a half and I will always cherish the memories and the lessons he taught me. You´ll be missed Joe!

Oh my!... my sister and I were just talking about Joe just the other day... we have been concerned as we knew he was struggling with his health, but no matter it´s always hard to hear news like this... our family has had long standing relationship with his fantastic Deli a staple in the Scottsdale community! My Baba was a fanatic as were my sister and I he has since passed but I have fond memories of Joe and his daughters always sneaking Baba a chocolate chip cookie after we ate our dinner, Joe was always generous in thought to our father and I will always remember him for that... he was a terrific husband, father and very humble business owner and will be sorely missed by everyone... our love and prayers go out to his family! RIP my friend

We are heartbroken at Joe´s passing. We met the Guido family, our new next door neighbors, in 1970. We couldn´t have asked for finer, kind neighbors. Immediately, our families bonded and wore a trail between our homes. Joe was in Maria´s class and known for his captivating personality and penchant for mischief. Our happiest times were hanging out on the patio laughing and enjoying life. A huge void occurred when the family moved to Arizona. Life in Oak Brook was never the same. We are thrilled at the success Joe worked hard to realize. He has left a legacy bigger than life. We could not have expected less. He had the genes! We are all blessed and enriched having had the good fortune to embrace him. He has a special place in our hearts forever.

Joe Guido was truly a ONE of A KIND! I've been to the Deli before but did not get to meet him until the credit card processing rep asked me to help with their wifi dropping transactions. I met the rep and Joe, summarized my plan and Joe hired me to solve their wifi issues. He then wanted me to make something for their music in the deli. He Loved the music I set up (especially Sade) to randomly play in the deli. His face would just LIGHT up when his favorite songs came on! He made suggestions and I would FIND them for him! His compassion was enormous too! I had cracked some ribs and one of our dogs passed away so I was unable to dig a grave in our yard. I asked Joe if he knew anyone who could help and he immediately found someone (a two man crew) to help and come over the NEXT day on him. He wouldn't take any money for the job. He loved Animals... got the greatest kick out of drone footage chasing our horses! You would see him early mornings walking around the horse properties and watch them run! If you were in need of anything he would be there for you. He was a True and Faithful Friend, Family man and Husband. He will be missed! Thank You, Joe for being You!

I'm sad to have gotten this news. I serviced Joe's appliances at his home for many years. He was ALWAYS good to me. Treated me with kindness and respect. He remembered my name and treated me like family. The deli remains one of my absolute favorite places to eat. My heart goes out to his family. Rest easy big guy!

I am so sad to hear of Joe's passing. I first met Joe in 1986 when my Dad was visiting from Chicago and told me about Guidos. I heard the wonderful story of the Guido brothers and how they opened up a grocery store in Chicago. My dad was a banker and helped with the loan and all the paperwork. He told me that most of the brothers had moved to Scottsdale and started up the deli. Back then it was a tiny, tiny place. Joe was always there to welcome us and tell us what was good. Over the years I came in once a month to buy cheese ( my dad always said to buy GOOD Italian cheese ) and get some take out food. There I would see Joe in the last booth doing paperwork and welcoming his customers. I used to sit and have a tea with him as I waited for my broasted chicken ( The BEST!). We always talked about our dads and how they were such great, upstanding men from Chicago. It will not be the same without seeing Joe is his favorite booth.

I have been a Guido's customer for years. I love the place. Amazing food, staff, atmosphere. The best restaurant I have been to in the valley in all my years I have lived here plus all the years prior that I've taken vacations out here. I went to Guido's last night and I saw the sign up near the door about his passing. I couldn't believe it and still in shock. He has served me many times. Such a kind man who loved his customers. I am very sorry for this loss and send my love and condolences to his family, friends, customers and too all you knew him.

10 years ago I started working for Performance Foods as a food sales rep, and Guido´s was one of the first accounts I got.
When I walked in for the first time, Joe let me know in no uncertain terms what was expected of me, and I realized early on that gaining this man´s respect might be a daunting challenge.
He was tough.
He was strict.
But most importantly he was fair.
I soon learned that the loud voice and waving of the arms just meant he had a big heart and loved everyone.
Quickly we came to be friends and formed a great relationship. I will never forget his many kindnesses and generosity.
His help in translating Italian terms I didn´t know came in handy, too.
The Guido´s staff is truly family.
God speed Joe. You will be missed.

Oooosuch sadness overcame us when we were told of our dear Guido´s transition to glory. It is overwhelming! God placed him and his devoted wife and family in our lives as a blessing to us. I don´t know how to describe the love and gratitude that we have for such a wonderful blessing.
When we visited our daughter and her husband, Steve and Naima Guy, our lunch st Guidos Deli was always our most joyful occasion, because we would have lunch with an earth angel and Zara was always there.
Our last visit before he went to the hospital we went to worship at his beloved church, Pillar church, with his nephew. It was awesome we had breakfast with Joe and Ara after worship and we laughed, ate and loved on each other. We think if that as our last supper with our dear friends. Joe Guido was the human who mirrored his/our Savior. Jesus said " they will know that you are mine by the way you love one another"...That is Joe...Love.
We will never forget him and we pray for all of us to love as he did when he was on this side of life.
We know that you are enjoying your reward. You fought a good fight, you finished your season here, now you are in your home with our Savior and you are with your family and friends who are there also. One day we shall see you there.
We love you Guido

What is there to say about Joe? He was full of life and loved his family. He made Guido's Deli the spot for good Italian food. When my daughter came in with her now husband, he ordered the Italian beef and said he never had anything like it and asked if they ship to Texas! Joe will be greatly missed. To Araceli, Marissa, Yamile and Karla, our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. RIP cousin.

I was a food sales rep that worked with Joe. And let me tell you, it´s not easy to win Joe over. But once you do, there was nothing he wouldn´t do for you. That man would treat me and my son like family. He was always kind to me. And that meant a lot given that Joe didn´t just like everyone! He was tough. The kind of tough it takes to build the empire that he built. I´m glad I got to know Joe and his family in the way that I did. I´m sad that I wasn´t able to see you the last few months. I will miss you so much. But your presence will be felt every time I walk into guidos and have dinner with my son. I´ll look over at the booth you sat in and remember all the times I walked in to meet with you. God bless you Joe. You´re flying with the angels now.

joe was my scottsdale cousin. I think more of my friends liked his chicken parm than they did me. Joe had some nice gatherings at his deli over the years. I did not attend all of them, but Sue and I enjoyed the time we spent at the deli. I remember her commenting, "how come your mothers cooking does not taste like this".

Our families were friends since we were children, we even went on vacations together. We took a train from Illinois to California, during that time we went into a prank shop and Joe bought some itching powder and put it down his Dad's back. Boy was Jimmy mad!!!
But he was always playing jokes and my memory of him is his laugh. It will forever echo in my mind as it was such a great laugh.
When we all moved to Arizona we use to go out to the bars and after go back to his condo to dance and continue the party. He was always such fun.
Such a great guy, he will truly be missed, and my heart is so sad for him and his family.
Love you Joe XOXO
