Joseph Kalinowski Obituary
Born in Scranton, son of Connie Cali Kalinowski of Dunmore and the late Joseph A. Kalinowski, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School and attended the University of Scranton. He served his country in the Army Reserve. Before retirement, he was employed by Lackawanna County as deputy register of wills and then owned and operated Kalinowski Landscaping Inc. of Dunmore. He was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore. He was a longtime member of the Dunmore School Board.
He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan who enjoyed going to Lambeau Field with his family and friends. He enjoyed going to Penn State football games with Bobby Ragnacci, Joe Durkin and Al O'Donnell, and loved vacationing in Naples, Fla., where he was president of the Key Royal Condo Association. He enjoyed sitting on the porch for coffee with his neighbors, Tana and Don Alunni and Ann Marie and Casper Colo. His true passion was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as "Appa." He enjoyed every birthday party, sporting event and other activity involving his grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Atnip of the Hershey Medical Center as well as the doctors at Regional Hospital of Scranton and staff of the intensive care unit. The family also wishes to thank the Rev. David Cappelloni of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish.
Also surviving are two sons, attorney Joseph Kalinowski and wife, Natalie, Dunmore; and Matthew Kalinowski and wife, Jennifer, Spring Brook Twp.; a daughter, Elizabeth Sample and husband, David, Dunmore; two brothers, Richard Kalinowski and wife, Delphine, Olyphant; and Anthony Kalinowski and wife, Marlene, Medfield, Mass.; five grandsons, Jacob and Luke Kalinowski, Matthew and Joshua Kalinowski and Conner Sample; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 208 Smith St., Dunmore. Interment, St. Michael's Cemetery, Dunmore.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. All those attending the funeral are asked to proceed directly to the church on Saturday. To offer an online condolence, visit ODonnellFuneral.com.

Carole and family,
This is almost too much to bear. As long as I had known Joe, I never seriously thought that this day would come. Please accept my love and sympathy at the passing of a great man and phenomenal human being. He was truly a "light on a hill" who used his days to bring joy to others and make his corner of the world a better place.
I will always remember the Kalinowskis, and I thank God for the privilege of knowing him all these years.

Joe was always genuinely concerned for the well being of those of us around him. His love of his family, and those close to him, was his greatest strength. The best boss for which a young man could ever hope will be sadly missed. I first met Joe Kalanoski when I joined Boy Scouts at St Roccos Parish. He was one of our Scout Leaders. He always let us get away with a little more than the other leaders would at camp. Joe was a genuine person and knew how to relate to us. Whenever I ran into him around town Ialways left the conversation fealing energized. Rest in peace my friend.

Carol and family,
I am so unbelievably sorry for your loss. Joey was such an amazing man who loved you all and everyone around him so much. He told the most amazing stories and had such a zest for life- he will truly be missed. He is without a doubt an angel watching over us all now just as he did on earth and i can picture him playing cards, drinking a beer and dancing to polkas in heaven. Carole, and Family -- My best high school friend, Joe, will always bring a laugh to me and many, many great memories. The stories of his (our) escapades at Dunmore HS live on in memories now, but so vivid to me and all who knew Joe, Joe Abda, Ralph, .. and all the other 'gang' members. So sorry to read this. What a beautiful obituary for my funny, wonderful, amazing cousin. My heart goes out to Carole, Jody, Matthew, Elizabeth and their families. When I talked to Joe on Wednesday, August 29th, he sounded so good. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren when we talked and he told me what was going on, at that time, in everyone's life. It was so good to hear his voice and to catch up with life's happenings. I definitely feel your loss. I will certainly miss all the stories, love and laughter that Joe brought to my life as well as all my children's lives. Joe was a fighter and I thought he would overcome this hurdle in his life like he did with the many others throughout his life...even with all the prayers going his way-God's will was stronger and wanted Joe to join him in heaven. Rest in eternal peace Joe.
