Having a Dublin heritage I did so appreciate his book "Dear Dirty Dublin" covering the period my grandfather lived there.

I´ll always remember Joe as a funny, intelligent guy. Wish I had seen him more than I did, but I still have memories

As Joe would frequently say"....if it doesn't make any difference to the remainder of Western Civilization....don't worry about it".

I remember spending a night in Joe and Gretta's place in Kilcrohane and picking out a planet or two on a telescope Joe had there. Joe was always very animated about topics that interested him.

Remembering `Uncle´ Joe with fondness. He was a fun loving man and as has been said, passionate about Ireland and history more generally. I remember him helping me with my history homework (he was way too clever for me!) as a school kid and he made it sound so much more interesting than my teachers at school! Sending much love to my dear aunt Gretta, to Paul and John.

I will always remember Uncle Joe´s smiling face and twinkling bright blue eyes and his knack for joke telling in the true Irish tradition. Sending much love and sympathy.

Joe was married to my aunt Gretta, my mothers oldest, much loved sister,Therese Mason. I have fond memories of Joe and Gretta's visits to Cork. I had the pleasure of visiting them in New York. They were fantastic hosts to myself and my husband, Larry Egar. Joe was a quiet, intelligent and lovely person. He will be greatly missed and forever in our thoughts. Sinéad Mason
