OWUMI, Chief (Dr.) Joseph Akpojevwe Sr. In Celebration and Thanksgiving The Life of Chief (Dr.) Joseph

Akpojevwe Owumi, Sr. August 08, 1953- January 24, 2017 Chief (Dr.) Joseph Akpojevwe Owumi Sr., passed away peacefully at Beth Israel Hospital after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma. His final days were spent with friends and family by his side.

Chief (Dr.) Owumi was born into the Urhoho Tribe in Eruemukowharien, Ughelli, in Delta State, Nigeria. His parents were Chief Johnson Oteri Owumi, a prominent Chief of the Ughelli Kingdom, and Mrs. Esabuno Owumi, a community leader and activist.

Dr. Owumi left Nigeria in 1976 to further his education in the United States. He graduated from University of Massachusetts in Boston, with a Bachelor of Science in Management, Economics and Computer Science. He later earned an MBA degree at Suffolk University and Doctorate degree in Business Administration.

Dr. Owumi was an active member of St. Angela's Catholic Church, Past Worshipful Master, Celestial Lodge #2, The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Masonic Order, Founding Member and Past President of Urhobo Social Club of Massachusetts and a pillar of the Boston community where he taught Finance classes at the University of Massachusetts.

Dr. Owumi leaves behind his loving wife Chief (Mrs.) Claudia Leigh Owumi, Mrs. Malinda Leigh Owumi, Chief Joseph Akpojevwe Owumi, Jr., Chief Anthony Vincent Owumi, Mr. E. Johnson Owumi, Mr. Alexander William Owumi, Chief (Mrs.) Melissa Marguerite Watson, Mr. Justin E. Owumi, Mr. Isaiah Owumi, Lady (Mrs.) Rebecca Owumi Oruma, Mrs. Martha Emerhi, Mr. Olatunji Fakunmoju, Mr. Michael Kevin Watson, Mrs. Rebecca Ferrini Owumi, Mrs. Monique Saulny Owumi, Ms. Courtney Samuel. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Wake Keeping Services: Friday, February 10, 2017 at The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, 7:00-9:00 P.M., 24 Washington Street, Dorchester, MA 02121.

Funeral Services: Saturday, February 11, 2017 at St. Angela's Catholic Church at 10:00 A.M., 1548 Blue Hill Avenue, Mattapan, MA 02126.

Burial Services: follow at St. Michael's Cemetery at 500 Canterbury Street, Boston, MA 02131.
