OTTUMWA — Joseph "Joe" Charles Reck Sr., 89, of 129 N. Cass St., died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.He was born June 10, 1920, in Ward, Iowa, to John and Celine DuBois Reck.He married Delores Mae Santen, Dec. 9, 1943. He married Darlene Leedom April 26, 1969.He served in the U.S. Navy from September 1942 to November 1945 as a S1g. 1st Class. In 1980, he retired from U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier. He was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.Survivors include his wife, Darlene; a son, Joseph C. Reck Jr. of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Barbara Reck of Kimberling City, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Martha Davis (Glen) of Moline, Ill.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and his beloved Chihuahua, Rosie Robin.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Tom and Gus Reck; and one sister, Madeline Carr.Cremation has been accorded and no services are planned.Memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society.Robertson-Jay Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.Obituary may be viewed at: www.legacy.com/ottumwacourier/Obituaries.asp

Darlene, don't know if you'll remember me but we worked together in the Morrell office. I have also lost a spouse so know somewhat of your feelings at this time. I moved to NC after Lynn's death in 1983 and subsequently remarried. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
