JOSEPH RUBENSTEIN Obituary
Age 92, of Oakland; Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2010; He was surrounded by his beautiful family. Devoted and loving husband for 61 years of Mildred Kovacs Rubenstein. Proud and dedicated father of Carol Yahr (Michael) and Mark Rubenstein (Claudia Davidson). Revered Grandpa of Aaron & Mindy Yahr and Casey & Jake Rubenstein. Mr. Rubenstein was President of The Jewish Home for the Aged from 1976 - 1982 and Chairman of the Board from 1982 - 1987. He was president of Riverview Apartments from 1986 - 1989 and an Honorary Trustee of both. Mr. Rubenstein was the oldest surviving Honorary Life Trustee of the Jewish Community Center. Joseph was a Captain & Navigator of the 8th Air Force in World War II flying 35 bombing missions over Germany and Poland. Mr. Rubenstein received the Distinguished Flying Cross with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and various citations. Services were held at Rodef Shalom Temple. Interment West View Cemetery of Rodef Shalom Congregation. Contributions may be made in his honor to Pittsburgh Youth Leadership, C/O Mark Rubenstein, 1034 Fifth Avenue, Suite 400, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. I am so sorry to learn that Joe Rubenstein died this week. My parents, Abe and Belle Cohen, were some of his best friends, and I knew Joe and Midge from the time I was a little girl.

I recognized Joe's picture in the paper right away and have very warm memories of spending time with him and Mildred at my grandparents' house on "bridge nights" some 45 years ago. I was glad to see he lived such a full and happy life; my condolences to his family on his passing.

Mr. Rubenstein was one of the sweetest and most generous men I think I'll ever meet. He was so good to my little Alexandra and treated her like a grand-daughter along with Ms. Rubenstein. We always called them that out of respect. I will miss his daily phone calls to Ronnie. He was a very great man and I think alot of people felt that way about him! Love and prayers to you all, from Alexdandra and Mary.

Dear Midge.....Joe has had a lasting impact on me. Through his encouragement I became involved in the Jewish Home and Riverview Apartments. He will sorely be missed by many. We are both in Florida and cannot attend the funeral.
