LAWRENCE — Joseph O. St. Cyr, 78, of Lawrence, and formerly of Haverhill, and Salem, N.H., died Friday, May 8, 2009 at Academy Manor in Andover.
Born in Haverhill, son of the late Joseph and Alina (Fournier) St. Cyr, he attended St. Joseph Grammar School and the former Haverhill Trade School. He served as a Corporal in the U.S.Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Mr. Cyr was employed at Western Electric Co. in North Andover for several years and as a dispatcher for Town Taxi and later as the store manager of the Grossman's Building Supply in Salem, N.H. and Billerica and retired in 1995 from BAE Systems of Nashua, where he worked as a stock room materials handler. Following his retirement, Mr. Cyr worked in security at Rockingham Park in Salem.
A member of the former St. Joseph Parish of Haverhill, Mr. Cyr was a life member of the Salem VFW Post # 8546, and the Wilbur M. Comeau Post of the American Legion, Haverhill. He was an avid Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Boston Celtics fan.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lucille (Dufresne) St. Cyr, four daughters, Gail (Gilman) Anderson and her husband Brent Anderson of La Mesa, Calif., Geraldine (Gilman) Goetz and her husband Eugene Goetz of Westford, Jacqueline (St. Cyr) McDonough of Londonderry, N.H., and Sandra St.Cyr Hodgkins and her husband Robert Hodgkins of Derry, N.H., two brothers, Richard St. Cyr, of Van Couver, Wash. and Arthur St. Cyr of Haverhill three sisters, Rita Robertson of Plaistow, Adele Tragiou of Plaistow, and Theresa Campbell of Merrimac, also 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, an aunt Dorothy Dumas of Haverhill and several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Francis and Robert St. Cyr and sisters, Marie Lowther, Yvonne St. Cyr and Phyllis Royce.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may call on Monday, May 11, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
