Joseph Therrien Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 8 to Jan. 9, 2023.
We regretfully announce the passing of Joseph E. Therrien, 70, of Maidstone, VT. Joe passed away on January 5, 2023 after a brief illness.

Joseph was born to Yvonne (Martell) and Raymond Therrien on April 5, 1952. An independent and vibrant personality from the beginning, Joe was an only child raised in Burlington Vermont. He worked for many years at Henry's Market in Burlington until his employment at IBM in Essex Junction Vermont. Joe retired from IBM after over thirty years in primarily the Quality organization where he perfected his skills as a scanning electronic microscope specialist. During those years Joe was a resident of Milton Vermont and owned a camp at Maidstone. In 2012 Joe fulfilled his dream moving permanently to Maidstone Lake into a new home he designed.

Joe was very active and enjoyed a list of hobbies. Joe's need for speed was evident through his love for fast cars, motorcycles, snow machines and prided himself on living on the edge. He enjoyed his annual visit to Maine with his mom Yvonne to eat lobster and walk the beach. He cherished his time with many close friends and relatives at his home on Maidstone Lake. He especially enjoyed getting together with his closest friends during hunting season, target practice, good food, cards, pool, fishing and beverages.

Joe was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by many cousins and very dear friends too numerous to mention.

If you knew Joe his favorite acronym was S.A.F.R.A. Here is a quote he loved. "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but, rather to skid in sideways totally worn out shouting Holy Hell, what a ride!".

While we would love to hold a memorial service in Joe's name, he specifically requested no services take place. If you'd like to honor his legacy, please donate to The Muscular Dystrophy Association in Joe's name.

Joe was an amazing man and great friend and neighbor at Maidstone Lake. We loved his sense of humor.

I worked with Joe for many years and visited his home in Maidstone. Quite a guy. He taught me a lot of technical stuff at IBM, but also shared his hunting and fishing experiences with all his friends. He was a personality that we will all miss.

Joe was a special nephew.
I always admired the care he gave to his mom.

Condolences to Joe's family and friends. I worked with Joe at IBM Burlington for many years. To summarize our relationship, I was responsible for bringing in a new Scanning Electron Microscope to our department. Joe had his favorite tool which unfortunately was part of a trade-in deal on the new tool. I thought I had lost a friend as he told me he would eat CROW if the new tool was as good as his old one. Bottom line, after using the new tool for a while, Joe brought in a CROW hunting decoy to one of our department meetings and pretended to eat it (actually I think he bit the head off). We were back to buddies after that. I will remember him always as a friend and colleague!!!
