Joseph E. Wachtel, age 86, of 2308 34th St., Two Rivers, died on Friday morning, March 4, 2016, at Brillion West Haven, Brillion, WI.

Joseph was born on June 30, 1929, in Two Rivers, a son of the late Elmer and Viola (DeVroy) Wachtel. He attended St. Luke's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy from January of 1951 to October of 1954. On September 10, 1952, he married Bernadine Skubal at St. Luke's Catholic Church. He was employed in the Engineering Dept. at Hamilton Mfg. Co. for 47 years, retiring in 1993. Joe was a member of the Two Rivers Jaycees, Hamilton Goodfellowship, VFW Post #1248, Mother of Hope Council # 1957, Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly #1220, Men of St. Peter the Fisherman, and St. Joe's Athletic Association. Joe was an avid golfer, he had a membership at Wander Springs Golf Club for many years and the Wachtel's were Charter Members of the Two Rivers Family Swim Club.

Survivors include his wife: Bernadine Wachtel, Two Rivers; his children: Wanda (Jeff) Braun, Thiensville, Karl (Kim) Wachtel, Goose Creek, S.C., Mark (Jenny) Wachtel, Elk River, Minn., Diane Reese, Lake Forest, Calif., Nancy (Gary) Brochtrup, Reedsville and Steven Wachtel, Two Rivers; his grandchildren: Christopher Braun and Stephanie, and Caitlin Braun, Sarah Wachtel, Corey Wachtel and Gina, Sean Wachtel and Kalena, Mitchell and Brett Wachtel, J.J. and Trevor Reese, Stephanie (Alex) Nelson, Stacey, Jennifer and Jamie Brochtrup; and three great grandchildren: Jordan Lacavera, Ethan and Gavin Wachtel, and Ben. He is further survived by three sisters-in-law: Joye Wachtel, Mercedes Wilda and Lorna Skubal; a brother-in-law: George Zebrauskas; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a stillborn son; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Anton and Julia Skubal; two brothers: Robert Wachtel and John Wachtel; two sisters: Dorothy (Leo) Vieau and Mary Ann Zebrauskas and in-laws: Joyce (Clarence) Thompson, Lester Wilda, Arlene (Herman) Roepke, Doris (Frank) Hamernik, and Glen Skubal.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd., Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Tom Reynebeau with burial of his cremated remains in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Military honors will be accorded immediately following the Mass by members of VFW Post #1248 and American Legion Post #165 of Two Rivers.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.
