Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Rath Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Joshua L. Rath US Army Staff Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

Hello,
I represent PRAYER SHAWLS 4 FALLEN SOLDIERS (PS4FS), an organization that since October 2007 has sent over 2,800 prayer shawls to military families who have lost a loved one. We are an organization of over 240 groups from all over the country. We make every effort to reach families even when post cards are returned after they have moved. Would you kindly send me a contact email/address so that we may send a loving hand-made prayer shawl to the family? Thank you!

You should be receiving a quilt from Freedom Quilts real soon if you haven't received it already. It is our way of saying we care and we want to bring you some comfort. Shed your tears on your quilt wrap yourself and let it be arms wrapping you with love and comfort. OUr deepest sympathy for the pain you now carry with you. We thank you for being into this world a hero that stood tall and gave of himself for others. I know a mother would rather have her son in her arms safe instead of burying him and dealing with a pain like no other pain. We are here if you need us if you need to have someone reach out and pray with you for strenght my email my dear is [email protected] my website is www.freedomquilts.net the quilts are for all the parents and spouse that have lost a love one since September 11, 2001 that is when I started this project and that is why I'm still at it. With total honor and respect these quilts are made for the families that lost so much just so the rest of us could enjoy freedom.

Josh, God bless you soldier and thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation and for paying the ultimate price for our freedom.. You are now in great company with God and so many other fallen heroes before and after you. On 5/6/08 my nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward was killed in action in Iraq and my final promise to him was to never forget him and our fallen hero’s, we will never forget their commitment and sacrifice. To the Rath family, words cannot express the pain we now share, but our families will forever have a bond and we will be thinking of Joshua and your family and will keep you in our thoughts & prayers. Since the loss of my nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know your loved one is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. From the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and may the memories of your Hero carry you through each day for he will never be forgotten!

I served with Josh in Ramadi in 2006. I never imagined someone like him losing his life at such a young age. A lot of times we (survivors) wish we could trade places with our lost brothers. In this case I would have in a heart beat. Those who knew him will never forget his playfulness, and adept ability to excel in anything he tried. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Joshua Rath our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Joshua. And to Joshua it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing terrorist forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Joshua, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Joshua’s family and loved ones.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Rath, Family and Kim,

When David (Audrey) called and told us about Josh we could hardly understand him; he was so devastated he couldn't even talk over his crying. We asked if he was hurt. "No." Our next question was, "And Josh?"

David and Josh would call and FaceBook us regularly. Our hearts are broken for you. We know that he is with the Lord, but we miss him so. David will never be the same.

We thank you for raising such a fine young man. Kim, you love a wonderful man. We are each blessed from having Josh in our lives. We continue to pray for you daily, many times. We will never forget him. May you each feel the Lord's presence when you can't bear to go on anymore. Our thoughts are with you.

Dear Rath Family and Kim,
I don't know your family, but today I was drawn to your son's funeral. I am a child of a Father that was a Master Sgt. in the Army for 30 yrs. And a sister of a Warrant Officer IIII, that flew helicopters in two tours of Viet Nam.
Sitting there, listening, as Family members and friends recall memories of Joshua, I began to feel the Holy Spirit move on my crusty old heart and bring out the tenderness of mercy that I had once had, but kept pushing down with a stiff upper lip. Years of hurt had caused me to stuff it down and go on.
Today, because of Joshua, the Holy Spirit softened my heart and gave me tender mercies toward your Family.
I'm thankful that you have a wonderful Church Family that will be there and uphold you in prayer, during this time of loss and healing.
I will never forget Joshua or your Family and will pray for you.

To the "Family" and all the "Loved Ones" of Staff Sgt. Joshua Rath:
The sacrifices of your Son, a Soldier, both in life and in passing, Joshua, Our True American Patriot, Our True American Hero, are greatly appreciated. His Love for His country and fellow man were displayed by his willingness to fight for our freedom against those who would try to deprive us of Gods given Blessings. Be assured Josh as a representative of the United States and his family, had touched the lives of those in a world who know little or no freedom in a positive Christian manner. Only through the Love of God and His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ can we know that Joshua did not give his life in vain. We know that God is in control and has a purpose in each and everyone of our lives. As a retired Sailor & parents of a Son who is a Sggt. in the Air Force (he has been sent to the war zone twice) we understand the anxiety you have endured but cannot begin to know your sorrow. Please know that you all are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers for the "Loving Hands of Gods Comfort" to hold you now and for ever.
In His Love,
God Bless,

There is not a day in the 18+ years that I do not remember Barry. Tell your story everywhere you go and be proud to have a Hero in your family. We are safe because of the sacrifice of Men like Josh and Barry. Listen at night as you hear your name whispered to Our Lord in prayer. May God himself wipe the tears away from your eyes.

Dear Rath Family & Kim: I know that the words that have been written & spoken must all seem like a big blur in this moment, but I pray that in the coming days may they all settle over you and bring calm & comfort to you as will our Heavenly Father & Holy Spirit. I must say that your family has always had a great impact on others and that Josh was no exception. He was a great example for my sons Canaan & Caleb. They have never really known anyone up close and personal that has served in the middle east except Josh. I wish I could have extended my thanks to him in person, and we are very saddened by the loss of him, and while he didn't even mean to, he gave my boys a true American Hero that they will never forget. Not only in his service to our country, but as a young man in the youth group who held his faith in tact, who wasn't afraid to stand and say that he was a man of God, a man of prayer & action, a man of commitment. So Thanks Josh for setting the bar so high, for showing my boys what it means to be a Man of Honor.
Prayers & Love from our family to yours,
Leisa, Barry, Canaan & Caleb Cook

Leroy, Darlene, Children and Kim,
I am so sorry for your loss of Josh. I did not know Josh, but Leroy is a big part of our "Bp Family" and Leroy is very proud of all his children. Josh will always be considered a "HERO" in my book. He may be gone from this life, but his spirit is still alive on a "Mission" for the Lord, and I pray your hearts can draw comfort from the many sweet memories you have. May God Bless each of you at this time of sorrow.

To The Family of Joshua Rath:
I am so sorry for the loss of your son. There are no words that can fill the emptiness that you are feeling now or will feel in the days to come. I know. My son was murdered in August, 2007. I have been and will continue to pray for your family. Remebering him and talking about him is probably the biggest comfort you can have. Again I am so sorry for your tragic loss.

Although, I did not know your son, I know the sacrifice he made for his country. He gave all and you can't ask anymore from a soldier. He must have been a wonderful son and I know you were proud of him. I can't begin to know your loss. I can offer you comfort in knowing that your friends will help you through this tough time.
He can never be replaced, but he died a hero, doing what he choose to do and that was fighting for his country. Thank God for Heroes such as your son. His and your sacrifice will never go unnoticed. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May God bless and keep you.

To Leroy , Darlene, Kim and Families:

Just to let you know that during this time you and your families are in our prayers. There is nothing that can be said or done that will erase this tragic event from your lives. Your son's decision to serve his country is something that is to be proud of. His courage, leadership, and commitment to what he did is immeasurable and carries the utmost honor that one can achieve. From those of us who have served before him and those that served with him he will never be forgotten.

The Rath Family;

I want to express mine and Dennis' deepest sympathy and our sorrow for the loss of your son. Our son too is in the military and I cannot express how this has touched Dennis and I both. We want you to know that each of you are in our prayers. May God bless and comfort each of you. We hear of our sons, daughters, brothers and sisters losing their lives everyday. When we see it so close to home we realize the importance of looking at each one as our own, because they are. God bless you.

As a fellow service-member, I salute you Josh, for all of your dedication, both on the battlefield and on the homefront. You were true to God first and foremost, then to your family and country. I commend you now and always. I am looking forward to the day when I see you in heaven and we are praising the Lord together as Christ's Soldiers. I may be a sailor, but as far as I'm concerned, you did your duty. Now my prayers go with you and toward your family. May you rest in peace.
