Joshua John Schaefer, 40, passed away peacefully at his home in Galesville, WI on Thursday, November 18, 2021. Josh was born on January 28, 1981 in La Crosse, WI to Stephen and Vickie (Tracy) Schaefer. He graduated from La Crescent High School in 1999. Josh worked at the Ace Hardware Distribution Center, and had been employed at Venture Machine & Tool, Inc. in Onalaska for over ten years. Josh’s love for music took him many places around the country to find a great live show. Josh loved to golf and play cards (especially with his Dad and Grandpa Schaefer) and fish with his buddies. His true passion was his beloved children Riley, Genalyse, and Cylas. He was a loving, kind, and patient father. Josh was a simple man who asked very little from life on earth except to be a father. He was granted that wish and cherished that role.
Joshua is survived and will be eternally loved and missed by his parents, his children Riley Bohan, Genalyse and Cylas Schaefer; Amanda Spencer, the children’s mother; his sisters Sara (Charlie) Johnson and Tracy (Jody) Miedema; 5 nieces, 4 nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins, great aunts and uncles, and countless friends, whom he loved like family.
A private family service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Schumacher Kish Funeral Home in La Crescent. Friends may call on the family from 4-6 PM. Starting at 5:00 PM the Event Center in La Crescent is open for family and friends to gather and share stories of Josh and spend some time together, in his honor. Refreshments and appetizers with be provided. In lieu of flowers, the family ask memorials to be donated for his children, in Steve or Vickie Schaefer’s name.

It has been a lot of years since I last saw Josh, but I have a lot of fond memories of him. He was always fun to be around and as a very young person was someone I looked up to. I was very sorry to hear of his loss and am sending my thoughts and prayers to Steve, Vickie, Sarah, Tracy and all of his family and friends.
