Joyce Thompson a beloved family member and resident of Bennington, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the age of 74 years and 10 days. She was born in Bokchito, Oklahoma on May 26, 1942 to Hoy and Lois (Whatley) Phelps. Joyce was joined in Holy Matrimony to Orval Thompson in Madill, Oklahoma on January 16, 1960.
Joyce was a member of the Red River Valley Cowboy Church in Bokchito. She enjoyed sitting quietly while admiring her beautiful flowers, reading, playing dominoes and sewing. But everyone knew that the most important thing in her life was her beloved family who were with her when she left this life and arrived in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her; husband, Orval Thompson of the home; sons, Chris Thompson and companion Tamy Mays of Bokchito, Oklahoma, Rick Thompson, and Joe Thompson and companion Sheila Folsom of Bokchito, Oklahoma; sisters, Judy Barbee and husband Eddie of Walters, Oklahoma, Gerry Sue Meadors of Bryan, Texas and Margie Andrews of Bennington, Oklahoma; brother, Harold Knight of Lawton, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Destiny Palmer and husband Chalem of Bokchito, Oklahoma, Christy Bridges and husband Tyler of Platter, Oklahoma, Shelly Thompson of Bokchito, Oklahoma, Lance Thompson and wife Sara of Bennington, Oklahoma, Chase Thompson and wife Tabi of Bokchito, Oklahoma, Brair Thompson of Bokchito, Oklahoma, Colt Thompson of Durant, Oklahoma, Tara Johnson and husband Craig of Durant, Oklahoma and Miranda Thompson and fiancé Dakota of Durant, Oklahoma; 9 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Lorene Thompson of Bennington, Oklahoma; and special friend, Jana Bowman of Leonard, Texas.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents, Hoy and Lois Phelps; son, Mitchell Dean Thompson; and brother, Bob Knight.
A Family Hour will be from 6-7:00 PM Wednesday, June 8 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant. The graveside service will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 9 at the Bokchito Cemetery with Bro. Phillip Rowland officiating. Pallbearers will be Rick Thompson, Chris Thompson, Joe Thompson, Colt Thompson, Lance Thompson, Chase Thompson, Briar Thompson, Chalem Palmer and Tyler Bridges.
