Juan Lugo Guerrero Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 30, 2025.
Juan Ernesto Lugo Guerrero, 62, passed away on July 29, 2025, in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Born on February 8, 1963, in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic, Juan lived a life marked by resilience, deep love for his family, and an unwavering connection to his roots.

Juan is survived by his former wife, Josefa Polanco-a woman he loved with his entire being for over four decades. Their story was one of enduring affection and humor; he married her twice and passed away still trying to convince her for a third chance. Their bond was a testament to the depth of his heart and the strength of their shared history.

He leaves behind three children-Elizabeth Lathrop, Ernesto Lugo, and Kelvin Lugo-along with their families. Juan was immensely proud of his children and never missed an opportunity to speak at length about their accomplishments and how much he loved them. His pride in them was boundless and ever-present.

Juan is also survived by his mother, Rosalia Guerrero Veliz; eleven siblings; and multiple generations of Dominican and Puerto Rican family members residing in both Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. He was predeceased by his father, Pastor Jose Reynaldo Lugo Alvarez, and his half-brother Jose.

Raised in the Pentecostal Christian church, Juan held non-denominational Christian values close to his heart throughout his life. His faith remained a quiet but steady presence as he navigated life's many challenges.

A proud Dominican through and through, Juan brought the vibrant spirit of the Caribbean wherever he went. He had a deep love for dominoes, baseball, Bachata, merengue music, and traditional Caribbean cuisine. Known for blasting music from morning until nightfall, he filled every space with rhythm and joy.

Even after an early medical retirement due to a workplace injury limited his career options, Juan remained industrious-flipping furniture and TVs with determination that earned him the title of "ultimate hustler." Juan was a complicated man who faced personal struggles with courage.

Despite these challenges, he consistently extended kindness to others-often giving away his last bit of pocket change to someone in need. He tried to help people in whatever way he could, offering support in ways that were uniquely his own.

In keeping with Juan's wishes, he will be cremated. A private celebration of life will be held at a future date. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have reached out with support and condolences during this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Juan's name to any organization or charity that supports individuals or families affected by alcoholism or mental health issues-causes that reflect the journey he walked. Our father is now free from suffering and disease. May he rest in peace.
