Judith Kingsbury Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 6, 2017.
Judith L. Kingsbury passed away peacefully on March 6, 2017 (2 days before her 84th birthday) at Kimberly Hall in Windsor, where she had lived for over three years, having been a resident of Bloomfield for many years. She was born on March 8, 1933 to the late Lewis A. and Elizabeth V. (Southergill) Kingsbury. Upon graduation from Hartford High School, Judy worked for the Travelers Insurance Co. She became an insurance agent/office manager for the Willoughby & Pinney Insurance Agency and worked in insurance agencies until her retirement in 1996 from the Willis Agency of Hartford, CT. Judy was a very generous, caring person - many of her friends and family were recipients of her baked goods that she made during the year for various occasions, and she was always reaching out to others to give a helping hand, especially to the elderly. She was an avid reader and was very interested in the political scene. For many years, Judy spent a few weeks of summer vacation in Rockport, MA, a place that she called "the home of my soul", baking her "goodies" in advance and bringing a carload to distribute to many, from the strangers on the street to the shopkeepers and friends. Judy is survived by her brother, Charles R. Kingsbury and wife Grace Ann of East Granby, nephews Stephen O'Donnell and wife Vasti of Bloomfield, Michael O'Donnell and wife Susan of Stafford Springs, Allen J. O'Donnell of Pine Bush, New York; nieces Catherine Perez of Alvin, Texas, Barbara Fabiani and husband William of Berlin, Gracelyn Kingsbury and partner Joan Baloga of Windsor, Janice L. Kingsbury and partner Robert Ruick of Windsor; grand-nieces Kristina Pasqueretta of Berlin, Cally Perez of Alvin, Texas, Jamie DeSimone and husband Laurence of Ellington and grand- nephews Rich Perez of Texas, Blake O'Donnell, Drew O'Donnell and Kyle O'Donnell all of New York, Jay Cipolla and wife Heather of VT, as well as other family and friends. Judy was predeceased by her sister Mary Jane (Kingsbury) O'Donnell, a niece Deborah O'Donnell and a nephew David O'Donnell. Her family will receive friends on Monday, March 13 from 10 AM to 11 AM followed by a funeral service at 11 AM at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave Windsor. Burial will be at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation to Mary's Place, 6 Poquonock Ave, Windsor, CT 06095 or a charity of your choice.

I just found out that both Judy and Chuck have passed. They were my second cousins. I knew Judy as Aunt Judy as she was a part of (Gramma) Hazel Wolohan Kingsbury's family and attended all the family get togethers. She and (Aunt} Sally Kingsbury Lundeberg were very close friends. The last time I saw Judy was in January, 2011. I was back there for a celebration of my Aunt Dot's (Knapp Cooney) 90th birthday. We met for lunch and spoke about the family history in colonial era America. I am so sorry that I failed to keep in touch. She was a great lady and I loved the time I spent with her in person and on the phone. Rest In Peace, Aunt Judy.

Dear Chuck: (I wonder if you're still called Chuckie as you were as a toddler). I was Judy's closest friend when we were little girls in Deerfield (Windsor). After you moved, my parents drove me over to play a few times and once when we were middle aged adults, we met by chance. My brother Leo emailed me from Windsor to tell me of her passing. I cried when I read her obituary. I also make cakes (and pies) for many occasions. I was sad to find out that MaryJane had also passed. I'm sorry you lost both your sisters. My sympathy goes out to you.
