Jurgen PETER Obituary
Jurgen Heinz Peter, founding member and guitar player of the Canadian rock band, "The Haunted", passed away at home on March 25, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 74. He was born on June 7, 1942 in Gablonz, Bohemia to Franz Xavier and Elisabeth Peter (Hollubetz). Survived by his adoring wife Dale Peter; two daughters Jennifer and Jessica; and his grandchildren Sarah, Mitchel, Scarlett and Violet. He will be missed and loved forever.

Jurgen and The Haunted were part of my youth. I remember the High School dancers in the mid 60's.
Jurgen will never be forgotten for what he contributed to the Montreal music scene. I had one brief conversation with him in Richmond BC in 2011. The timing to get together just wasn't there.

My sincere condolences. I knew Jurgen 50 years ago in Chateauguay where we were friends and neighbours. He invited me to listen to many of the band practices in the church basement. He is sadly missed. George Maes.

My deepest sympathy to the Peter Family.
Jurgen and I were friends from our teenage years into our late 20's. We did sensible(?)things like riding on his Ariel Motorcycle in mid winter and in his 59 blue Ford Thunderbird convertible sometimes with the top down (in winter more sensible stuff).Somewhere in late 1962/early 1963 Jurgen and I decided that we wanted to form a band so we did.
I remember Jurgen loved electronics and mechanics. He was always tinkering. I remember when made the very first WaWa pedal for me following and modifying specs he found in Popular Electronics magazine. When I used to visit him at his home, his room was always full of all sorts of gadgets that he was working on. He was quite brilliant in many other things as well. He was always a very cool guy. He never lost his cool in all the time I knew him.
Jurgen was a true and loyal friend and I could always count on him, and he me. As remarked above we had a lot of good times together and did crazy things often. We could confide in each other and not worry about the other guy thinking we were a jerk. After the band reorganized Jurgen and I lost touch for many years, each pursuing his own life. Fortunately I was able to reconnect with him via email a couple of years back.
I wish peace and love to the Peter family. Jurgen was a good and generous man.
Jurgen will live on in my memory.

i remember jurgen when he lived in chateauguay and his jag my brother Glenn played in the haunted as well i used to tag along on the gigs they played and helped with equipment setup and tear down . they used to practice at our house in the heights he will be sadly missed i did have a chance to speak with him a couple of years ago

I was extremely sadden to hear about the passing of Jurgen . I can't honestly say that we were close friends but we did talk quite a few times back in the old days. We crossed paths during the second edition of the Haunted. This is when Gary Marcus was on guitar and John Monk was the singer. The Haunted were a huge influence on younger bands in those days. My band played many songs from the Haunted LP. We also played many songs from their live repertoire. Jurgen was a nice guy, not pretentious. I still can't believe it. R.I.P. Jurgen.

The music made by the Haunted was part of Montreal's incomparable soundtrack. I never got a chance to meet Jurgen, but I sure know he'll be with us as long as we keep playing those great records. And we always will. Deepest sympathy to his family, friends and former bandmates.

Jurgen was a man I admired greatly for being one of the co-founders of Montreal's most remembered band of the sixties. I didn't know him personally aside from a few brief greetings in the course of the music business, but everyone spoke well of him. He was also a primary mover in creating a rock music scene by renting halls for dances and concerts for young people. This is basically a fan letter in memory one of Montreal's music heroes. Sincere condolences to his family and close friends.

As a constant member of The Haunted in the 1960's, I am saddened by the loss of my old friend. We also trained as commercial helicopter pilots together following the band years and later enjoyed boating with our families in beautiful B.C.

When I first started in the entertainment business, The Haunted was one of the first bands that I booked at Montreal high school dances. It was always a pleasure dealing with Jurgen. Our last time getting together was a few years ago when Linda and I were out in B.C. We spent a lovely evening with Jurgen and Dale.. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
