Karen Alyce Tamzarian Adrouny died peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2015 in her home in Monte Sereno, surrounded by loved ones. She died after a long battle with progressive supranuclear palsy.
She was the devoted wife of Dr. A. Richard Adrouny for 33 years and the mother of Dr. Melissa Knar Adrouny and Mr. Gregory Adour Adrouny. She is also survived by her mother, Alyce Tamzarian of Potomac, MD; her sister, Kay Tamzarian Fellows (Jack), of Boulder, CO; and her sisters-in-law, Dr. Salpi Adrouny of Johns Creek, GA, and Sonia Adrouny Russo (Ray) of N. Potomac, MD. Other devoted family members include Dr. Zaven and Armine Adrouny of Hillsborough, CA, Stephanie Adrouny, John and Irmy Adrouny and Karen and David Barson all of the Bay Area.
Karen was a graduate of the University of Maryland and began her career as a paralegal for the Washington, DC law firm of Williams Connolly and Califano. She later worked for Southern California Edison and for former Congressman David Dreier as his District Representative. Upon moving to the Bay Area, she became very active in community affairs with organizations like the Junior League of San Jose (for which she served as President in 1994), the Santa Clara County Medical Association Auxiliary, the Good Samaritan Hospital Board, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, the Olympic Development Program for young female soccer players, the California Youth Soccer Association and the Rotary Club of Los Gatos.
Her greatest role, however, was serving as a dedicated and loving mother, wife, daughter, sister and sister-in-law.
A graveside service will be held at 12pm on Friday, June 19 at Madronia Cemetery, 14766 Oak Street, Saratoga.
Her memorial will be held at 12pm on Saturday, June 20 at Calvary Armenian Congregational Church, 725 Brotherhood Way, San Francisco.
