Karen Ortiz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 4, 2021.
A beloved daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend, Karen Ortiz left this world unexpectedly, at the age of 22, on August 4, 2021. Born in Laredo, TX on September 10, 1998 to Juan Ortiz and Nidia Valdes, Karen grew up between Laredo, Tx and Houston, TX. In her early life she lived in Laredo, Texas where she attended elementary school. Then moved Houston where she attended Hopper Middle School. Karen graduated from Cy-Creek Highschool in Houston TX , where she completed the Airforce ROTC program. She then attended San Antonio College and was a Senior at UTSA University of Texas in San Antonio. She was a member of the San Antonio College Student Leaders and the Student Government Association and on the Campus Activities Board. In 2018 she won the Outstanding Student Leader Award and she was elected the President of the Student Government Association as well. Karen loved being active in her school and community where she helped organize several charity events such as the San Antonio Fiesta Flambeau Parade, A Tribute to the First Responders, Antojitos Festival, SAC Alumni Magazine Launch Party and Alumni Mixer, College Student Leadership Summit, SAC ScreamFest, and the campus Holiday Fun Run to name a few. Karen looked forward to graduating with a Bachelors in Business Administration and settling down in San Antonio, Texas. Karen was a loving and compassionate person who loved to be silly. She loved her father very much and loved to joke around with him. She loved family nights and was at all the family events. She loved music a lot and loved dancing and singing with her aunts. She was adored by little children because of her soft and gentle nature. She spent time reading to children and was a student teacher in the Early Childhood Education program at her high school and hoped to be a mother one day. Karen cared about people in the purest way and was surely a little angel who spent time on earth. She will be deeply missed by all who met her. Those she'll meet in heaven include her brother and her Grandfather. She is survived by her father Juan Ortiz, her mother Nidia Valdes, her grandmother Dominga (Mema) Ortiz, Her aunts and Uncle. She is also survived by the many cousins that loved her very much.

I met you when you lived in laredo. We used be friends. We laughed together a lot. We talked about boys, school, family, our hopes, dreams, and what ever non-sense that came to mind and brought us giggles. I will your beautiful soul. I still can't believe this happened. I will never see you again, and that feels just plain wrong. We have all been robbed. You didn't deserve this. I hope to see you again, even in just dreams, don't hesitate to stop my love.

Karen you were so full of life and energy. You were one of Kelsey’s best friends and I thank you for always being there for her. We shared a birthday and you’d always say we got along because we were virgos. It doesn’t feel real that you are gone. I hope you find peace in your suddenly passing. We miss you very much.

Karen was such a beautiful soul. I only met her a year ago but I loved her the first time we met. My best friend brought her to my house knowing we would click right away and she was right. This photo was the last time I saw her. This was my baby shower in the last week of June. Little did I know this would be the last time I hugged her.

Karen was a blessing to all who had the pleasure of making her acquaintance. She was a great leader who was kind to everyone. Her smile was contagious. She had so much to give this world and her loss is tragic. My prayers are with you.

Karen, my heart hurts thinking about you not being here. I remember us at SAC and the positive light you carried with anything that you did. You were a great leader and friend. God must have needed an angel. Thank you for being my friend, and for the fun times we had. May you rest in peace. Till we meet again, buddy. -Nicholas Delaunay
