Kathie J. Nelson

Niantic- Kathie J. Kononchik Nelson, 66, of Niantic passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Kathie was born October 10, 1951 in New London Ct, to Katherine and Edward Kononchik She was a graduate of Waterford High school and The New London Hairdressing Academy, working various jobs including a few salons and as a waitress/bartender at Unks, The Fisherman, and The Lighthouse Inn. Kathie married Lee Nelson on September 9, 1995 in New London on the Coast Guard Barque Eagle. They have lived in Sanders Point Niantic for 22 years. Kathie was predeceased be her sister Bonnie Kumptsch and her parents Katherine and Edward. She is survived by her husband Lee Nelson, sister Patricia Grisham and husband John of Ledyard, children Stephan Walsh of Waterford and Valerie Krol and her husband John, of Colchester. Also by her grandchildren Mikayla Rein-Walsh, Kelsie Krol, Tyler Macierowski, and her great grandson Isaac Levesque-Krol. As well as her in-laws Mary Nelson of Ipswich, MA., Lynn Rynkowski of Woburn, MA. and Patricia Griffin of Stockton, CA. Kathie loved the beach and sun spending time with her family and friends, keeping an eye on her children and grandchildren while relaxing. When she had her toes in the sand she had a book in her hands. Kathie was a fixture at her children's sporting events and volunteered at the concession stands. To the delight of family and friends she had a passion for cooking. Her love for cooking resulted in a standing date with Lee to watch Saturday cooking shows. A Mass intention and a celebration of Kathie's life will be announced at a later date.
