Kathleen Liberatore Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 17, 2025.
Kathleen (Linklater) Liberatore passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Born in Chicago on April 12, 1946, to the late Thomas and Lillian Linklater, Kathy was the second youngest of 10 children. Early on, she developed a love for family, friendship, and laughter, which she carried through her 79 years. Kathy married her beloved husband, Daniel Liberatore, on September 4, 1965. They were married for 59 years and had five beautiful children together.

Throughout her life, Kathy took pride in creating a warm and welcoming home that became a gathering place for her dearest loved ones. She was an incredible cook and hosted holiday celebrations that brought together family members, neighbors, and friends from near and far. An active community leader, Kathy wore many hats - first as room mom, then as president of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), school board member for 11 years, including vice president, job coach for individuals with disabilities, and president of Liberatore Electric Co.

Kathy's happy place was her cottage on Dewey Lake, where she enjoyed spending summers with her 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Known for her loving heart and kind disposition, Kathy had a special and rare talent for remembering even the tiniest details about her loved ones - every birthday, milestone, and memory. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren loved gathering around her, listening to her stories and words of wisdom. Her legacy and impact on her family and community are immeasurable.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Dan, and her children: Daniel Jr. (Sheri), Joseph (Lynda), Anthony (Wendy), Andrea (John), and Matthew (José). She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Lillian; her grandson, Michael Ruzas; and her dear siblings: the late Daniel (Carol), Dolores (George) Patun, Thomas, Karen Fontaine, Patricia Tworek, William (Cori), Gerald (Paula), Ronald, and Edward.

A memorial service will be hosted by Kathy's family this summer with more information to come. In lieu of flowers, friends and family can donate legacy trees in Kathy's memory.

Although I have not seen or spoken to Kathy in many years, I have fond memories of us as teenagers and then young mothers. She was a wonderful friend. My condolences to Dan and his beautiful family.

I already miss you so much, Nana. I have so many memories that it's hard to recount them all, but some of my favorites were:

- Waking up early at the lake and sitting with you on the deck drinking coffee, eating coffee cake, and listening to your stories from when you were younger (and the mean nuns LOL!)

- Going shopping together every year for my birthday and having dinner with you! I always loved talking to you and you always made us feel so special. <3

- Christmas celebrations with all of our family and singing Christmas carols at the window waiting for Santa.

I know that you're resting peacefully and hugging all of your family in heaven. I love you so much.

"Will you´re not eating! Eat!" Haha Nana made me feel right at home. She was so happy for us to be moving back to Chicago (to be closer to her of course) we bonded over tomato pie and football. She knew her stuff! I´m blessed to have had the opportunity to be loved by her and be a part of the family. She was the greatest.

I will remember Kathy as a lovely, caring, and compassionate woman, I stood up in their wedding at 5 years old .. who would have thought it was the beginning of such a beautiful family she would always text me about different things happening and tried to take part when she could. She will be missed
