PETTUS, Kathleen Shackleton, 94, of Keysville, died on June 10, 2008. The daughter of A.B. Shackleton and Mary Belle Shackleton of Victoria, Va. Mrs. Pettus, known as "Shack" by her friends, enjoyed her association with Ash Camp Church, serving as superintendent of the Sunday School, coordinating Vacation Bible School, being active in missions, organizing the annual church picnic at Four Locust Lake, serving on the search committee and being involved in many other committees of the church. She was a big believer in works and duty and could carry on any responsibility with flair. She was president of the Keysville Elementary PTA, Randolph Henry PTA, possessed a clever wit and a gift for entertaining. She was a wonderful cook and an avid golfer. She loved her family, her home and her church. Survivors include a daughter, Bernardine Pettus Tucker; son-in-law and friend, Robert Tucker of Keysville; two grandsons, Daniel Joseph Farnsworth and wife, Tammy, of Greenville, S.C. and Robert Zachary Tucker and wife, Dara, of Keysville; four granddaughters, Kathleen Farnsworth Braun and husband, David, of South Dartmouth, Mass., Ka-Le Pettus Congdon, Kandi Pettus Fisher and husband, Ryan, of Richmond, Carolyn L. Hammock and husband, Timmy, of Farmville, Va; nine great-grandchildren, Cullen, Jared, Campbell and Cates Farnsworth, Dalton Tucker, Waylon Braun, Blake Congdon, Wyatt and Walker Fisher, Robert and Morgan Hammock of Farmville; devoted friend, Florence Kalbacker of Charlotte Court House; and special friend, Velda Agee. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, George Overton Pettus Jr.; a son, George Overton Pettus III; two sisters, Mary Shackleton Gee, Bernardine Shackleton; and a brother, A.B. Shackleton. A service will be held at Ash Camp Baptist Church on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 11 a.m. The Browning Funeral Home in Keysville is in charge of the arrangements.

My deepest sympathy to the family. Both Shack and Oat were close friends of my parents (Stuart and Hugh Tuggle). She was a remarkable lady and loved very much.
