Katie was born Aug. 28, 1977, the middle child of five. Katie was the sunshine of our family. Always ready with a smile, a hug, a joke, she warmed the hearts of everyone she met. Determined to fly at an early age, she graduated from Lamar High School in Arlington in 1995, and pursued aviation at Louisiana Tech University.
Katie was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, Alpha Eta Rho Aviation Fraternity and flight team. Katie was awarded the Outstanding Woman Student award at Louisiana Tech. After graduation, Katie taught flight school at Louisiana Tech before being hired at Air Midwest. Katie spent much of her free time and flight privileges visiting family in various parts of the country.
Katie always knew the right things to say and do for people because she had such a big heart. Katie truly touched and changed the lives of all who crossed her path. We are blessed to have had Katie in our lives.
Survivors: Parents, Marcy and Keith Leslie; siblings, Lisa, Brian, Kristina and Brad Leslie; her loving fiancee, Brent Brakhop of Little Rock, Ark.; grandmother, Irene Mangers of Nebraska; and numerous other family and friends.

To the family of Katie:
I was so touched by the picture of your young, beautiful daughter which the wire services were showing, and so sad about her death. I am so sorry for your tragic loss. You are all in my family's prayers.

May God's continued blessing be bestowed to the Leslie Family as a member of the MBS Parish Family, as a professional colleague and friend, and as a Lamar Viking alumni parent. My family's thoughts of love and concern are with you all at this time, especially with Katie - God's newest smiling angel.

Dear Keith, Marcy and famiy,
Paul and I were so sorry to learn that Katie's earthly journey came to an unexpected end on Wednesday.
While we only knew her as an infant and toddler she was such a free spirit with a big smile. I know her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. You are in our prayers.
With sympathy,
Paul, Kathy, Alana and Alissa Cordes
