Kellyn was one of the kindest, funniest friends I had growing up. I was not a popular kid, but Kellyn never seemed to notice or care if I was popular or not. We were friends at Dearborn elementary school and jr high (a boundary line sent us to different high schools). Her brother Alex was in our same grade, and was cute as could be back then, but it was Kellyn that remained in my heart. I remember one day after school, she invited me over to her house. We spent the afternoon cleaning her room (my own room was a mess, but it was fun cleaning hers!). We giggled and talked and of course, her mom, a beautiful ballerina, gave us a snack when we got hungry. Her dad popped his head in too, a thrill since I knew he'd been in Mary Poppins, and he was very friendly. Really, the whole family made me feel welcome and special, something I hadn't really experienced very often as a child. Kellyn seemed to see past my glasses, not-so-stylish clothes, and shyness, to the real me that was dying to get out. She was very kind and friendly when others were bullying or ignoring me... she was special. I remember how excited I was when my daughter was little and Mousercise came on our tv... and there was my old friend Kellyn! From that day on, my little girl and I danced along with my friend, all grown up and more beautiful than ever. She was such a sweet, down to earth treasure, and I am so sorry we lost her way too soon.
