Kenneth Bello Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 15, 2016.
Kenneth M. Bello passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, after a long illness. Born on June 30, 1945 to Clair L. and Georgia W. Bello. 'KB' graduated from Highland High School in Salt Lake City in 1963. He was a superb and graceful skier and served many years on the Brighton Ski Patrol. "Little Kenny Bello" was four years old when while playing outside one spring morning he said, "Look mom, popcorn popping on the "Apricot Tree." These words were the inspiration for his mother, Georgia Bello, to compose the Primary song, 'Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree,' sung by millions for many years. He studied Russian at the University of Utah while also serving in the Army National Guard. He began his career in graphic design at the Daily Utah Chronicle and then at the Newspaper Agency Corporation (Tribune and Deseret News). He married Melody Johnson, later divorced, and greatly loved and was proud of his sons, Zachary and Michael Bello who survive him along with his siblings Lynn Bello, Dave Bello, and Joanne Foster. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clair (Bud) and Georgia Bello and his older brother, Clair (Si) Bello. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at The Wentworth facility in East Millcreek for their professional and tender care and to KB's sister Joanne, for her many years of care. A small gathering will be held at Russon Brother's Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, Utah on Tuesday, December 20, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hello Elder Bello, I tried to send you a message via the SWBM email address I have for you, but did not have success.

Hope all is going fine for you and your family with the passing of your brother. Denny & I both send our sympathy.

I was delighted to read that your Mother wrote the Primary song "Popcorn Popping"! Very special song to me! I was just released from being the Primary Chorister 2 weeks ago.....so you know I certainly had the kids singing that particular song each spring.

Cheerio for now & hope to see you at the end of March for our annual reunion.

There were so many good people and good times I had when I was working at NAC. Ken was Indeed one of those people. I would have to say those were the best times of my life. Ohh the parties we would have with all the gang. Every time I hear popcorn popping on the apricot tree, I will remember Ken. He was a good man. I will always have fond memories of him in my heart.

I still miss the fun times we had growing up in the third ward. Our parents were good friends too. I still live in the neighborhood with Lynn. Take care family.

I was so sorry to hear of Ken's passing. For 3-4 years in the 1980s, we worked together on an almost nightly basis. I was assistant sports editor at the Tribune. Ken, in his job in the backshop with the NAC, pasted up our sports pages. I have valued his friendship and professionalism for the last 35 years, though I haven't seen him for awhile. We made a lot of tight deadlines together. To his family and other friends, my heartfelt condolences on the passing of a warm, funny, honest, intelligent man. RIP, my friend.
