An informal social gathering celebrating Ken and sharing memories will be held:

Date: Friday, November 15, 2024, at 1PM

Location: Sea-Craft Waterfront Tiki

3440 Marinatown Ln. North Fort Myers, Fl. 33903

Ken is survived by his Brother Peter Marlowe and his family, Las Vegas, NV; his Nephew Eric Marlowe and his family, Washington, DC; his longtime childhood love and friend, Andrea Haller, Welborn, Fl.

Ken was predeceased by his Dad, Maurice "Skip" Marlowe, his Mom, Bernice "Bunny" Marlowe, and his Uncle Arthur "Robert" Marlowe.

Ken graduated from Bronx High School of Science, Bronx, N.Y. and graduated from Hofstra University, Long Island, N.Y. After college Ken became a successful CPA and worked in Manhattan while residing in Forest Hills. Not so much like the Ken we may know in his later years, but on a whim in 1994, he, "Kenny" and his lifelong friend Andrea, "Andy" decided to relocate and move to Sanibel Island where they shared a charming waterfront home. You can imagine the contrast from a concrete jungle to a heavily vegetated landscaped property; actually this could have initiated his love for orchids, tropical plants and trees alike.

Shortly after settling in and adjusting to Island life, Ken made a career change. Ken became a licensed real estate agent and serviced all of the Fort Myers, Lee County area. Many of his clients became his long time friends. He immersed himself with the local Board of Realtors serving on many committees and being heavily involved with the promotion of educational classes. He was a familiar face for many years as he monitored those same classes he whole heartedly believed in. Many associates formed lasting friendships with Ken and he was the go to guy whenever questions came up about ethics, standards, properties and calculating anything you needed right down to the penny. He'd sit there with his notes, with his pen and when he wasn't using his pen he'd replace it right where it was intended to be, the pen slot in his shirt breast pocket. Don't ask what happened when the pen bled...just don't ask. Ken got great pleasure out of teaching, sharing and exchanging all things real estate. If Ken received dinner coupons for the Casino, he couldn't wait to distribute them among his friends, if he got vouchers for free beer at the Octoberfest (where each year he would volunteer), he was sure to share.

Listening to Ken when he shared some of his childhood stories and life growing up in the Bronx, you would detect that boating played a big part of his families recreational activity. They enjoyed boating and the weekend would consist of prepping the boat one day then off boating the next. In Ken's junior year of high school, he had a bicycle accident, his folks had to give the consent to operate; doctors explained they had to crack his skull open to relieve the pressure on his brain, then put a metal plate into his head. His Dad's immediate concern was, since they steered their course using the compass, if they used a ferrous metal it would cause the compass to spin! So what many did not know about Ken, he had a titanium plate, (non-ferrous metal) in his head. The quick and decisive selection of metal to be used was proof that this was a family of serious boaters who would not allow interference or a compromised compass that could affect the direction they set out for.

Boating continued this into Ken's adulthood and he made a special fb comment, "Sailing in NY Harbor is a really neat experience. It's hard to describe all the amazing sites. Getting there, going down the East River, passing under the bridges and past the United Nations is truly special." So stemming from his childhood boating experiences we can understand his love for the sea/water, reading Doc Ford novels and how he became an avid collector of Rums.

I first met Ken when we were both newbie realtors at Arvida Realty and we became instant friends. He was the sweetest, kindest, and supportive friend and absolutely brilliant. Gosh, he was so smart, but it was his big heart that touched us. We'll never forget him coming to help us move our son into his new home when we had no other help...out of the clear blue...there was Ken, ready to help, and we couldn't be more grateful! He will always be in our hearts!

Kenny was my ex-brother-in-law.
What I remember most about Kenny was how down to earth he was. If you asked for help he would be there. No frills, no pretense. I don´t think Kenny knew how to be any other way.
The best example of that was Kenny being there for his mom Bunny during her long battle with cancer.
She was an avid traveler and Kenny stepped up to make sure she had a great last adventure in Alaska.

I can only hope Kenny is surrounded by all the things he loved in life.

We've known each other since we were yearlings, as our parents were friends even before we were born!
After college and after both of our divorces, my mother and his mother must have conspired to re-introduce us, but for the life of me I can't remember exactly those details. All I know is, we did get together in 1992 !
He loved being on a boat, any boat...and we spent alot of time together on ILO, my sailboat.
One of Kenny's favorite trips was from City Island to the Statue of Liberty one glorious September day in 1993. He also loved going to Mystic CT, and Hamburg Cove, CT which we did several times.

By the end of 1993, we had decided to move to Sanibel Island, and so we did, January 1994. It was FREEZING cold, and we drove our large Budget rental truck all the way down, towing my car. We couldn't find a motel the first night...so we slept in the truck in a hotel parking lot near Baltimore with my two cats and my heavy down comforter and pillows (which luckily I had thrown into my car as we were leaving).
The cats were so warm. LOL !!

The next night we had made it all the way down to Georgia someplace, and it was still COLD! But we got a beautiful motel room and got a great night's sleep and the next day we arrived on Sanibel. The rest of the story will be in my next book.

I will miss Ken. When he called if I didn't have time for a long conversation I would have to call him back. There were no short hello how are you with Ken. He let you know everything that was going on with him at that time in his life. Ken liked me but he loved my wife. He was so concerned and sad when she fell I'll with cancer. He would call and the very first words would be asking about her. He was a genuine nice guy who was grumpy at times. I will miss meeting up at the German American club where he would give me tickets for beer or food. I'm still saddened at the loss of a friend.

Ken was a good man. He was a friend who genuinely cared about you. He would call just to check in and catch up. It didn´t matter how many miles were between us it was as if I´d never moved away.

He was such a big help to me with his wealth of knowledge of all things real estate. When I got licensed he was so happy for me. Shared his knowledge very generously!

I don´t have much of a green thumb but loved when he shared his beautiful orchids. He even gifted me a garden gnome for my garden no matter where I was. He was one who called me GG for my short stature & love of garden gnomes.

I loved his quick wit too. At times he was a curmudgeon but that just made him all the more lovable. He was real. No fake pretense. I will miss our chats my friend. I pray we will meet again in the life to come!

Kenny was My First and Best Roommate at Hofstra University. He always shared anything and everything with me and Our Friends. I´m really going to miss him and had been wondering why I haven´t heard from him in quite awhile! Unfortunately, this is not what I wanted to hear! I live in New York and didn´t have any of his contacts, so I wasn´t able to find any information on him until tonight

Ken set the bar that all real estate agents should strive for. He cared deeply about every client and it showed. It wasn´t just a job to him. It was a way to help people achieve their dreams. Not only did he assist myself and several friends with buying and selling several homes through the years but had great advice about taxes and financial matters. A genius with heart. Rare and beautiful. Will be missed!

I am so sad to read this. He was a genuine nice guy. I enjoyed our many conversations around real estate and the Bronx.
