Kenneth McIvor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 16, 2011.
McIVOR, Doug July 30, 1935 - February 10, 2011 It is with much sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Kenneth Douglas McIvor (Doug) beloved husband, father and grandfather on Thursday, February 10, 2011 in Tucson, Arizona, USA. Doug was raised on a farm in Peace River, Alberta and then supported himself with a variety of hard but rewarding trades before settling down and raising his family. His love of teaching high school and coaching hockey had a great impact on his students. Doug's passion for helping those in need was exemplified by the work he did with Change for Children particularly in 1998 when he and Ed Carson, along with others, drove a bus full of supplies to Nicaragua. Doug will be missed for his compassion, warmth, and integrity. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Maxine, children Cyndie, Doug, Spence, Sue, Lynda and grandchildren, Wade, Owen, Morgan, Mike, Dakota, and dog Shonto. Doug was predeceased by his first wife Patricia, mother Dorothy McIvor, father Kenneth Bruce McIvor, uncle Gilbert Potter, and aunt Helen Honey. At his request cremation has taken place and a memorial celebration will take place in Edmonton at a later date. In lieu of flowers friends may make donations to Change for Children ( www.changeforchildren.org ) or to the charity of one's choice.

Maxine, so sorry to hear that Doug has passed away. Cath and I so enjoyed getting together for coffee with the two of you. My years spent teaching with Doug are most memorable. His sincere, honest, warm and compassionate personality bode well with all the students he taught. Discussions over lunch in the staff cafeteria will be cherished. Our thoughts are with you and your family.
