Kenneth Stevenson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 5, 2022.
Kenneth B. Stevenson, 60, of Westbrook, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones. Ken was born on June 28, 1961 in Tarentum, PA, and was the son to the late Richard Stevenson and Lillian (Jackson) Appell and his stepdad, the late Frederick Appell. Ken loved anything that had to do with the outdoors. He enjoyed camping trips with his friends and family. He often took long walks through the woods with his dogs, his friends and their dogs. He liked playing frisbee in any place big enough to let it fly. He would swim in any body of water he was near, lakes, rivers, the sound. You could find Ken just playing with a stick and his dog. He was always singing or listening to his music or something new. Ken would always have a story to tell and an adventure to go on even if just local. He valued his friendships and there isn't anything he wouldn't do for those who knew him. He recently celebrated 24 years of being clean and sober. He was happy to talk about his spiritual awareness of Jesus and the paths that helped him on his journeys. Ken was proud of the time he spent as a Rifleman in the US Marines where he was stationed in Okinawan, Japan. He also served as a Chaplains assistant in the Navy reserves in Groton, CT. He is survived by two sisters Sherri Filley and her husband James, Bonnie Jablonski and her husband Paul; brother, Fred Appell; nieces Caitlin, Jessica and a grandnephew Ethan. He also leaves behind his dog Chelsea and cats Penny and Zuse who are being cared for and loved. A Memorial Service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 195 Old Boston Post Rd. in Old Saybrook, on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 10 a.m. Please meet directly at the church there are no calling hours. In spring there will be a burial with Military honors at the State Veteran's Cemetery in Middletown. Cremation Society of Connecticut in Windsor has care of the arrangements. I had the honor and privilege of working with Kenny at LC Doane for many years and then continuing that friendship beyond the company. Kenny's love of animals and music were just a few of the things we had in common. His kindness and generous spirit made him easily one of the sweetest people you could know. I will miss him, his smile and his laugh. Rest easy, my friend.
